Let's put it like this: He's an absolute nerd.
...and an occult conspiracy theorist, and the co-discord admin of a small friend server, in which he's somehow the only american out of a bunch of nordic kids. Funny how that just happens sometimes. They all communicate in English. 

Dabbling in the occult, he's been wildly theorizing the existence of creatures like vampires and werewolves and even magic, for a couple years now. Especially vampires - he's been piecing together evidence about it quite a bit! Sometime he'd love to talk about it at length with someone, but he's usually not really taken very seriously. His friends just kinda think it's a personal inside joke he's got going on, and tend to respond with more jokes. So he doesn't really push the subject. 

Little does he know, there's literally a vampire and a werewolf right there in his friend group.
