IMPORTANT: So uhhh I will likely rewrite this at some point? It's pretty accurate to his personality, but I also wrote it when pretty tired and struggling to focus so it may not read the best. I just don't have the motivation for that currently wheeze, forgive me. I hope this works for now though!

At first glance, Mercury very much upholds his title as the Ice Prince. He carries himself in a very regal and strong way. Many of his mannerisms are princely and elegant. He takes his job and position very seriously, and tends to give off a vibe of refinement and power. He's prideful to a cocky extent, and isn't afraid to let you know his capabilities. He seems to be as cold as the ice he's so fond of. The most people tend to get out of him outside are snarky retorts or grumpy remarks. To be frank, he is what many would consider to be a bratty bitch. However, this is far from all he is. Spend time truly talking with him, and his outward elegance is almost immediately betrayed by his personality. In truth, he is much less professional in personality than he appears. He's loud, brash, and very opinionated. He'll never hesitate to tell you how he feels. He's stubborn and surprisingly rebellious. He won't follow orders he doesn't believe in, and prefers to be given the control of leadership above all else. He is incredibly brave, willing to go to much further lengths than many others around him, but also incredibly reckless. He often relies too heavily on his experience and just pure luck, and is no stranger to paying the price for it. His confidence and cockiness follow him into the battlefield. He's no stranger to taunting to foes before and while engaging. However, he can also get fired up easily himself. For being an ice prince, he's actually quite the fiery sort. He's short-tempered, impatient, and quick to make his point through action. Especially fighting.

However, once people are able to get close to him, Mercury's true nature starts to show. Buried under layers of trust issues and an overwhelming desire to come off as tough is a genuinely good person. He's the most loyal friend you could ever have once he gets to know you. He's warm, friendly, and incredibly caring. He almost takes a brotherly demeanor with those he trusts, helping them feel loved and happy. Despite his temper, he can actually be surprisingly level-headed and reasonable when others need him to be. He can give surprisingly good advice when he needs to, and is willing to be a source of support for those who need it. Though he's also not afraid to give gentle pushes to those who need it. Or, sometimes, not as gentle of pushes. Surprisingly, he actually has a very playful and goofy streak. He likes to joke around, and likes seeing others laugh at his funny moments. He struggles with the idea of verbalizing his feelings, often getting awkward if he gets too vulnerable with his emotions and such. However, they're very much still there, and often expressed through actions instead. He finds that actions speak louder than words, and tends to act before thinking. This can allow him to adapt very easily to changes in his situation, even if it does add to his recklessness. He's fiercely protective, and would give his life in a heartbeat if it meant saving the ones he cares for. He has more integrity than he first seems to. He hates seeing others in suffering, no matter what side they're on, and will put his all into making sure those around him stay unharmed. He is no stranger to being thought of as a hero, and quite loves that outlook. However, he also carries his fair share of angst. There's reasons for his mannerisms and trust issues, after all.

In combat, Mercury mainly relies on his sword and ice abilities. He carries a beam sword in the shape of a snowflake-themed rapier. He uses very classical fencing techniques when fighting, and is the embodiment of class in the battlefield. He mixes this with the use of his abilities. He can create ice and freeze his blade in order to deliver powerful icy blows. One of his most well-known techniques with his sword is by shattering his blade into shards of ice. This can be especially devastating should he already have his sword piercing an opponent, acting like splintering shards breaking into the skin. Another major use of this is through using ice for his mobility. His boots are specialized with the ability to create beam skates. He's able to create paths of ice and skate around at high speeds on them. He can also use his skates as weapons and deliver powerful kicking blows. Or, should he need support or an ability to climb on surfaces he otherwise couldn't, such as walls, he can turn his blades into spikes that dig into the ground and keep him in place to steady himself. He's a very speedy and critical fighter, but can go wild if provoked enough. Typically, he'll lose the upper hand in battle by getting as show-offy and extravagant as possible. He'll go incredibly overboard on tricks and flourishes, which can leave him open if an enemy takes advantage of it.

Backstory

• He can create extremely ornate frost patterns on objects with just a touch. He uses this on the battlefield at times, making detailed designs on the ground while opponents think he's just running around randomly.
• Thanks to his ablities with ice, he has high tolerance for the cold. Perhaps he himself is always cold due to his need to generate ice. He knows Ares doesn't have quite the same level of tolerance, and often offers his fluffy hair to help with warmth. He is no stranger to draping his hair around Ares like a scarf in the cold.
• The X-shaped mark on his face is a scar. It branches out through his eye and is actually quite large. It's a place where the synthetic skin covering his metal body was torn. He could technically have it repaired easily, but for some reason he decides to keep it around. Perhaps it's a sentimental scar, perhaps it gives him motiviation. He won't say.
• Due to its proximity to his metal interior, when he gets worked up his scar will give off a frosty steam. This steam also flows out of any wounds he gets, and he can breathe it out when he's worked up as well.
• While he likes keeping his scar around, he is still very sensitive about it. It took him a while to let even Ares touch it. However, now that he trusts him enough, he actually adores gentle attention to it. Kisses and soft rubbing especially he loves.
• Technically, he came up with his surname himself. He didn't originally have one, but didn't feel complete without a full name. He chose Isolde for its meaning, as he found it fitting given his own propensity for using ice in combat.
• His hair is his pride and joy. He takes great care of it to make sure it stays fluffy and pretty. He extends this same level of care to Ares as well, and loves caring for his hair.
• He tends to be very protective over his hair as a result of this pride. He won't let just anyone touch it. However, when he's around someone he trusts, he'll absolutely allow them to touch his hair. He actually quite loves it from Ares especially.
• He absolutely loves practice sparring. Combat just gives him a surge of adrenaline unlike any other, and he loves it. He especially loves sparring with Ares as training, though the two often turn it into flirting by the end.
• As much as he loves fighting, however, he actually greatly dislikes delivering serious harm or killing. He usually does his best to incapacitate and detain foes rather than outright kill them if he can help it. He seems to have huge discomfort around the idea of such things befalling others, but he'll never admit why.
• While he does value his life, he also has more of a martyr complex than he initially lets on. He'd sacrifice himself on a dime for others if he really needed to. He puts a huge amount of pressure on himself to protect those around him, no matter what side they're on. Why this is he'll never say, but it does form a lot of his values.
• As expected from his appearance, he has a love for the finer things in life. He quite enjoys every fancy thing he can get his hands on.
• He somewhat struggles with his identity. He knows he was built to be a very refined and princely fighter, and while some elements of him definitely embody this, he knows he's undeniably different. Alongside this, he often feels a great pressure to perform due to his rank and build. He has somewhat of a fear of disappointing those around him. These issues add to his mountains of angst.
• Ares often calls him "hero" as a loving nickname, which he absolutely loves. He also melts when he gets called Pretty Boy. He knows it's true, but something about hearing it lovingly just makes him swoon.
• He's actually a huge flirt with Ares. He'll throw flirty remarks at him whenever he gets the chance just to see his reaction. However, when he gets such treatment in return, he tends to get plenty flustered himself.
• He absolutely loves figure skating. He often does it in his spare time, and is a true master on the ice.
• He really loves the snow, especially playing in it. He knows it's childish and sometimes worries about how it may look on his reputation, but he also really doesn't care enough to stop once he gets going.
