• red tom with white markings, amber eyes, darker red markings, long limbs, and a white dash on his chest
• he has a lithe build, and long limbs and a long tail

  • long summary:
  • Redkit and Springkit were born one day apart
  • Springkit was basically in love with him for as long as she could remember
  • Redkit/paw was decently aware of this, but didn't really care and just liked the attention lmao
  • one day he and his friends (Tigerpaw and Shadepaw) were talking about the cats they liked (Shadepaw likes Dawnpaw and Tigerpaw wants to have a dramatic love life)
    • Redpaw doesn't think anything of Springpaw (in his mind it's just his sister's best friend), but his friends tell him Springpaw likes him and Redpaw is like ig she's like kinda pretty but ok whatever lol 
  • later, Springpaw asks Redpaw if he wants to go on a walk with her (pretty much the equivalent of asking him out but with less romantic implications)
    • he says sure but doesn't really think about it
    • Redpaw's friends tease him about it afterward, but he's like yeah whatever idc and he thinks Springpaw is pretty but doesn't really feel the same way
  • the next day, they join the same hunting patrol, which splits off into pairs (so Redpaw and Springpaw hunt alone together)
    • Springpaw catches a squirrel, which is Redpaw's favourite prey, and he convinces her to eat it with him (even though it's against the warrior code)
    • however, a badger finds and attacks them, and Springpaw ends up saving Redpaw's life
  • after the badger attack, Redpaw starts to admire Springpaw a lot more, because he always thought she was kinda wimpy and weak until then
  • Redpaw and Springpaw start to hang out more
    • Redpaw likes hanging out with Springpaw, and thinks her awkwardness is endearing and funny
  • however, Redpaw has to leave the Clan due to his father starting a new Clan
  • Springpaw joins this Clan later that night, and Redpaw gets mad at her for joining, since he prepared himself to leave her, and basically shut down all those feelings/hopes, so when she came back, he had to readjust basically
    • he basically yells at her and snaps at her for nothing
    • he immediately feels bad after, and apologises, and she accepts it
  • Redwind (his father) also told him to stay away from Brightblossom (Springpaw's mother)'s family, because he has a rivalry with her
  • a bit later, a bear finds the new Clan, and kills almost everyone, including Redpaw's entire family
    • this impacts him very very heavily for the rest of his life
  • Redpaw and Springpaw manage to escape, and rejoin the original Clan
  • Redpaw takes out his grief/anger on Springpaw a bunch of times
  • Redpaw knows that Springpaw will always be there for him, and likes her loyalty
    • he also likes that there's someone who at least sort of knows what he went through
  • he hates how she tries to get him to talk about his feelings, though, since his father told him not to care about feelings
    • he also kind of hates her for having her family still alive
  • they become mates after they receive their warrior names

    • Redflash wanted to name one of the kits Redkit, and Springflower wanted to name one Autumnkit
    • however, Redflash didn't want to name one Autumnkit (because grief + trauma), so they decided on completely different names instead
  • Redflash meets a loner, Daphne, who tries to convince him to meet up with him
    • he refuses, since he doesn't want to betray Springflower
  • however, Redflash and Springflower get into a fight, and after this, Redflash increasingly begins to think of Daphne
    • he goes and meets up with her, but quickly leaves since he feels too guilty
  • he almost tells Springflower when she apologises to him (for their fight), but decides not to, since he thinks it doesn’t matter since it won’t happen again
  • he tries his best to forget about Daphne, but he can’t stop thinking about her, and eventually goes to meet up with her again
  • Springflower sees them, and confronts him about it later
    • he tries to deny it at first, but then eventually confesses and apologises, and she forgives him
    • he feels genuinely remorseful for his actions and vows to her that it'll never happen again (which is what he truly believes)
  • life is good for a while, but five months later, he meets a cat named Flurry
  • Springflower finds out about it, and he breaks it off with Flurry 
    • Springflower forgives him
  • however, he later finds out that Flurry had his kits
    • the kits were brought back to camp by Springflower, after Flurry's death
  • Springflower confronts him about it
    • Redflash didn't know about the kits, but wants nothing to do with them
      • he also doesn't want to damage his reputation or potentially jeopardise his position as deputy
    • him and Springflower get into a huge fight
      • since Redflash already ended it with Flurry, he put that chapter of his life behind him forever, or so he thought
        • this means he already shoved it away in his mind, and never wants to think about it again, but obviously the kits ruin that
    • basically, it ends with Redflash telling Springflower the only reason he became mates with her was to have kits
      • Redflash is extremely ambitious (a lot of this is because of his father having insanely high standards for him and always pressuring him and influencing him, telling him he has to be great)
      • he always wanted to be deputy, and then leader
      • in the Clan, having a family is a good way to better your reputation, since it shows that you're responsible, a good role model, and generally good all around
      • it also is a good sign of leadership, which is obviously what the leader looks for in a deputy/future leader
      • Redflash always had intentions of starting a family, and Springflower was the perfect cat in his mind (kind + demure + motherly) (at least, that's his perception of her)
      • he does of course love Springflower, but this was a small factor
  • after this argument, Redflash and Springflower's relationship is extremely strained
  • Redflash regrets what he said, and tries to apologise, but she actively avoids him
  • she can't keep on avoiding him forever, though, and they eventually talk
    • Redflash apologises, but doesn't exactly understand what he's supposed to be apologising for
      • he thinks Springflower is mad that he doesn't want to raise the kits, so he offers to raise them (he doesn't actually mean this though)
      • but she's ofc actually mad about his parting comment 😭 (the kits thing)
    • Springflower gets upset with him, and he tries to apologise, but she doesn't accept it
    • she tells him she needs space
  • Redflash still tries to apologise and talk to her after, but she doesn't want to hear any of it
    • he's still sort of confused as to what he did, but doesn't care about anything else and just wants her back
    • Springflower also finds out about Redflash's kittypet raids (where he leads a patrol every full moon to beat up innocent kittypets for fun)
      • he hid it from Springflower since he wants to “shelter” her and knows she wouldn't approve
      • however, she gets mad at him for this
  • they have another argument
    • Springflower tries to break up with Redflash
    • Redflash accuses her of not loving him enough to try and fix their relationship (he genuinely believes this), and then he asks what about their kits
      • he tries to bring up the kits to emotionally manipulate her into staying
    • he then tries to accuse her of wanting to have kits with Flickersight instead, since that's who told Springflower about the kittypet raids
      • this is partly because he doesn't like Flickersight and is angry that he told Springflower about the raids, and also partly because he noticed they've been spending more time together, and he's jealous and possessive 
        • Springflower thinks of Flickersight purely in a platonic way, but Redflash doesn't know this, and twists it in his mind
    • Springflower tells Redflash her mother warned her about him
      • in his head Redflash is like lmfao my father did the same thing but ok ig lol
      • out loud, he insults her character/personality, by calling her soft and timid (in a bad way)
        • basically, Springflower is gentle and empathetic, which are traits Redflash doesn’t see in himself, and he had always admired her for those traits
        • however, as much as he likes her for that, he also dislikes that about her, since he thinks she cares too much about other cats' feelings (his father told him not to care about that)
          • he also thinks it makes her weak and unambitious
    • Springflower tells him Autumnpaw (his dead sister and her best friend) would be disappointed to see who he's become
      • this shuts Redflash down completely
        • he hates hates hates it when someone mentions one of his dead family members/the bear massacre because he's absolutely traumatised by that event and never ever wants to think about it or talk about it 
        • if he thinks about it for too long, it severely impacts his mental health (even though he doesn't believe in that) and he'll lose touch with reality, and start down a depressive road and it's just bad all-around
      • Redflash responds with “Then it’s a good thing she’s dead.”
        • this is intended to hurt Springflower as much as he feels she's hurting him (which like wtf Redflash??? ok then 💀 i never said he was a good guy 😭)
        • he basically lashes out and takes his grief/trauma out on her
  • this argument ofc doesn't end well
  • without Springflower, Redflash gets more aggressive and battle-hungry (in general, not to her) and makes increasingly morally questionable decisions
    • this is because Springflower is the one cat who balances him out and reminds him of good
    • he also hates that she doesn't want to be with him anymore 
  • Redflash desperately tries to make amends, but Springflower won't listen (amen 🙏)
  • he even gives her an apprentice (Ashpaw/fall) to try and win back her forgiveness, but when she finds out, this makes her even more mad (which he doesn't understand since having an apprentice increases your sociopolitical standing) (he's a bit dense tbh)
  • Redflash genuinely wants Springflower back, and hates the distance between them
    • she's also been the one constant in his life
  • the Clan is hit with a greencough epidemic, and Brightblossom, Springflower's mother, dies as a result
    • this brings them closer together, and Redflash comforts her and offers support
      • losing a loved one is the one thing that he understands
      • even though he hates thinking about what happened the night his entire family was slaughtered, he pushes it all aside to care for Springflower
        • he doesn't have any intentions behind this--he genuinely hates seeing her sad and wants to do anything possible to make her feel better, even if it means acknowledging his own grief
  • however, Redflash ends up catching greencough too
    • Springflower realises she can't live without him, and they make up, and Redflash recovers
  • they later have their second litter of kits: Amberkit and Cherrykit
  • Redflash has an affair with Lavenderstar at some point for political gain, but i haven't written that part yet, so i'll write it here once i finish (although now that i'm thinking about it, it would realistically have to happen much earlier, before he becomes deputy)
    • but basically the whole Clan later finds out (probably years after it actually happened), and this causes more rifts in their relationship
  • this is basically the pattern for the rest of their relationship (you would think Redflash would get better, but nope)
  • now moving on to what he feels about her!
  • basically, Redflash has a hard time controlling his temper and frequently takes his emotions out on Springflower
  • when he was younger, he felt torn between loyalty to his father and what he felt for Springflower
  • Redflash knows Springflower will always be there for him, and that she'll always forgive him (which is how he gets away with everything)
  • Springflower is probably the cat that knows Redflash the best (but no one truly knows all of him)
  • funnily enough, Redflash doesn't actually understand/know Springflower (he thinks she's super demure and obedient or whatever but she actually has a courageous streak and isn't afraid to speak up for the ones she loves) 
    • he underestimates her
    • he also takes her for granted
  • she's also lowkey not even his type so um 💀
  • Springflower keeps Redflash grounded, and balances out his more aggressive tendencies
    • if he's doing something ethically questionable, he'll usually pause and think about what Springflower would think
    • he does hide a lot of his questionable actions from her, though
  • despite everything, Redflash does truly love Springflower

  • they're pretty similar, although Redflash thinks she's too soft and cares too much about others

  • Redflash doesn't really like that she chose to become a medicine cat, but approves of it nonetheless since it's a high position in the Clan

  • they met when Redflash was scouting Twolegplace for kittypets to beat up
  • Redflash thought she was cool and interesting, and was fascinated by her
  • he felt guilty for betraying Springflower, but tried to pretend to himself that it was platonic and that he wasn't doing anything wrong
    • as time went on, he told himself he couldn't tell Springflower now, and that he couldn't just ditch Flurry forever
  • he also never told Flurry about Springflower
  • after Springflower found out, he dumped Flurry and cut all ties with her
    • he didn't really feel bad

  • Redflash doesn't want to think about his illegitimate son ever
