Contempt

given their names, you'd think sullen and contempt would stay a healthy distance from any other wermz, preferring their own company to any chatterboxes. and you'd be right! well, except for the fact that these two grumpsters bumped into each other while scavenging a few months ago, and both of couldn't stop thinking about it. neither of them had ever met another werm who seemed so distinctly unhappy to see them; they'd both been unlucky enough to end up near communities of wermz that seemed unfailingly cheerful, and they were sorely tempted to claw those stupid smiles right off their faces. how DARE you wish them a good day! NO, they most certainly do NOT want to try your silly little apple pies!

well, contempt finally mustered up the social battery to seek out the mysterious, perpetually frowning werm from scavenging. they spent almost a whole day wandering around the city ruins, increasingly annoyed every time a sighting of pink and purple just turned out to be a trick of the light. as the hours dragged on, it was getting too dark to continue, and contempt gave up and turned around to leave-- only to find themselves nose-to-nose with the object of their search! sullen had been lurking behind them the whole time, and somehow contempt hadn't sensed their telepathy attempts, which was quite disappointing. despite this initial disappointment, the two quickly bonded over their shared loathing of just about everything, and taught each other their tricks for keeping a straight face even when someone was nice enough to almost make them smile. they were perfect for each other.

everyone was secretly relieved when sullen and contempt eventually moved in together. thank goodness those two could finally keep their scowling to themselves! and so sullen and contempt had a very dreadful ever after, which was just how they liked it.
