02 — Personality
Astallet is very knowledgeable in most biological areas, including human physiology and medicine. He‘s not extremely sociable and prefers to be left alone, but he will absolutely sit and talk about science for hours on end. He’s generally kind and well-mannered, but he does prefer for things to go his way. He is content being the leader.

03 — Background
before the party
With a degree in Botany, he set off to travel around Kuchu selling potions made of organic products and to study the array of unique fauna across the island. However, due to his little amount of sales, he‘s had to resort to scamming and upcharging just to get by. The party met him when he was selling potions and he tricked them into bringing him the island‘s army’s general.
with the party
The beginning of his relationship with the members of the party was rocky, as they were suspicious of his true intentions. However, after time, they accepted him and gained a strong kinship with the botanist.
He takes a clerical role in being responsible for the general wellbeing of the party members. He‘s regrown Ruth‘s arm, bandaged up most of the party, and took care of Tordek in his final moments of pain. His strongest relationship is with Jasper, in which they have both developed mutual romantic feelings that he refuses to pursue.
personal life
He grew up with his father, mother and sister. His sister, Cassandra, is a powerful figure in the Kuchuan government. Because of this, the islands Army general Stephan has proposed to her to gain political control. He has always been close to his sister, so he made it his mission to stop this from happening. After learning that the party is also at odds with the general, he agrees to help them.
Cassandra had a child with her husband before he was drafted, a baby girl named Valkyrie. She hoped this would be an omen of help and safety for her husband. At the age of 6 she started exhibiting symptoms of an unknown illness. She attended the church from the ages of 6-10, where she attended school and received (limited) medical attention. This is where Jasper sees her for the first time, albeit with no real contact.
For 4 years, Astallet works day in and day out on a cure for his niece. In this time he gains many chemical burns and medical issues due to self-testing, including his ability to control his vines. Just as he makes a breakthrough, Valkyrie attends a “field trip” with other children at the school within the church. During this trip, she, along with three other children, are involved with in a rockslide in which she is crushed and does not survive. After the autopsy, it is revealed that she was past curing, anyway; his efforts were for naught.
04 — Trivia
- Astallet’s accent more closely resembles someone from New Zealand, but neither exist in this universe so it doesn’t really matter anyway I guess
- Astallet remains one level higher than all party members.
- He has very poor eyesight, as is revealed in the session in which Jasper has his glasses; he is extremely nearsighted.
- He was almost exclusively referred to as “Australian Man” for most of the campaign (not anymore), and the only person to refer to him by his first name has been Bells.
