As a potential marriage candidate you need to know how to take it easy at first when it comes to trying to get her to open up to you. She is easily emotionally frightened by the thought of depending on someone else, as well as revealing her past or true feelings to anyone. Cetacea is a very romantic girl when it comes down to it. It was not uncommon for her once upon a time to imagine what it would be like to find a significant other and live together until the end of time. However, it will probably take either a lot of invested time or a very special person to reveal that in her.

The Specifics

Personality:

Reserved: Cetacea keeps to herself more often than not. It is hard for her to trust people, especially those who live on the land. While this may keep her safe from being easily swayed by ne'er-do-wells it also makes it extremely difficult for her to find friends or people that she can rely on.

Independent: This woman does everything on her own with little to no help from others. It has been ingrained into her that she is the only person she can depend on, because, in the end, you're the only person who's got your back for sure.

Charismatic: When she does make the effort to get to know someone or put herself out there, people will soon find that she is quite the charmer! She speaks confidently and is a pretty smooth talker (which she'll say she gets from her dad if it's brought up).

Loyal: While there are not many that Cetacea considers to be close with, the few that may make her open her shell just a bit will find that she's a ride or die kind of companion. As long as you show loyalty to her, she will do whatever it takes to keep you safe and out of harm's way, as long as trusting you to a fault.

Athletic: Ceta loves to swim, obviously, and even though one might think that swimming would be something so trivial to a mermaid, she swims for sport and leisure as well. She loves to push herself to new extremes on the regular, trying to amp up her speed as much as possible.  Being in the ocean all day usually leaves you with quite a lot of free time.

Creative: With too much time to kill, Cetacea often finds herself making small knicknacks, jewelry, or simple clothing. She has a taste for the simpler things in life, so she sees beauty in the most common things. She particularly loves crafting things with shells, which she learned how to make from her mother when she was young. She also enjoys other creative things like writing and singing, granted she's not the most talented at either.

Ambitious: Cetacea has big, big dreams in life. Despite the fact that her pod is probably halfway across the globe, she knows deep down in her heart that one day she will find her family again, and they will be reunited. She even hopes that if she starts a family of her own that her parents and siblings will live in the Trojan Island reefs with her since she has known the place as her home for so long now.

Physical Description:

Cetacea is a mermaid with the characteristics of a killer whale/orca. She has a human-esque torso, where she has vitiligo (lack of pigment in her skin) which is supposed to be resembling the dual color pattern of an orca. Her lower half is what gives her the obvious relation to killer whales, as it is a large, blubbery tale with black and white flesh. Her eyes are a glorious silver color with orange strands that glisten when the light is reflected just the right way. Her hair is black and is very long, going well past her dorsal fin, with a large white chunk that starts at her left temple.

She does have a completely humanoid form, though it is on rare or special occasions that she decides to take on this appearance.

Background:

Two dark skin killer whale mermaids produced the ever beautiful Cetacea out of their love, and so she was born into a pod (a group of orcas that travel together) consisting of her parents, grandparents, and close family friends. She was the oldest of her siblings (only by a year or two, so it's nothing spectacular) and took on the stereotypical big sister attitude and protected her brother and sister with her life.

For most of her young life, Cetacea lived contently with her pod, travelling across the ocean from arctic to tropical climates as they deemed necessary. However, one day when her pod was near the surface of the water in the middle of the ocean, far from any human-inhabited lands, a poaching ship captured the young Cetacea in hopes of finding common dolphins to sell for their meat, though they ended up catching something much more rare and, potentially, exponentially more profitable.

The mermaid was tangled in a net aboard a dirty ship, dead and stinking fish littering the deck around her. To her luck and by great chance, a horrible storm had been brewing and finally let loose on the ship and its occupants. This was the only opportunity that Cetacea had to wiggle her way free and leap back into the ocean. However, she had no idea where she was, but she knew that she was far, far away from her pod.

She swam aimlessly for a place with a climate she was used to until she found a set of twin islands with polar opposite weather: one tropical and the other like a tundra. But, to her, both of these were ideal places for her. She proceeded to loiter the waters of what she would soon to know as the Trojan Islands, only coming to the coast very briefly to catch small mammals for her to feast upon, and otherwise living and sleeping in underwater caves with pockets of air.

Cetacea, over time, became more comfortable with the occupants of the islands' lands, though was still keeping her safe and protected distance from everyone other than her fellow water dwelling peers.

Fun Facts!

Cetacea has a younger brother and sister! ... Which she hasn't seen since the day she was taken away.
Cetacea has vitiligo (a disease that causes color lause on the skin in patches) on her human flesh. The affected places are: the area around her eyes, her shoulders, the small of her back, under her arms, the tips of her fingers, her palms, the back of her thighs, and the bottoms of her feet.
Unlike most mermaids, she cannot breathe underwater. Because she evolved from an aquatic mammal rather than a fish, she still has to breathe air to survive. She can, however, hold her breath for a very long time.
Also unlike a lot of fairy tale mermaids, Cetacea can change between her humanoid form and her aquatic form at will. She doesn't need to be completely dry or completely wet to transform. Maybe that's something unique to the evolution of her breed of mermaid? Who knows.
She hasn't cut her hair since she was a wee pup.
 Ceta's favorite color is pink!
She mainly gets human currency by collecting discarded coins from the shallows near the shores of beaches! She will also occasionally sell exotic fish she finds at local markets if she has a real reason to spend money on something.
She has a shellphone with a waterproof case, so she can be young and hip with the human lingo! While she hates the idea of being an actual human, she finds it pretty fun to roleplay as one on the online chat!
Cetacea does not know how to swim with legs. She's also a huge clutz when it comes to even walking.
The common language spoken on the island (English?) is not her first language. Please be patient with her.
