Only child of the human knight Clark Blackwater, who served as personal guard for the king of Obrela. Their mother was a traveler from the elven lands, a mysterious guest of the king, who fell in love with and wed Clark. After she gave birth to Silas, she went back to the elven lands and was never heard from again. Because of this, Clark is very brusque toward Silas, seemingly resentful. He sent Silas off to apprentice under another castle paladin at the age of 8, and rarely sees them.
During their apprenticeship, Silas found themself hiding their elven heritage and not claiming their father, instead going by the assumed name Silas of Dragonback. This is the reason they have grown their hair out long and allow some people to address them as "she". They became quite the decorated paladin, going as far as becoming a member of the Obrelan Royal Guard, where they were assigned as personal guard for the princess, Grey Behringer.
