Dragonslayer

Dragonslayer is a desert Wyvern, a subspecies of Wyvern specialized for prolonged gliding flight and long-distance vision. Unlike the common variants, adapted for short flights and short-range ambush hunting, desert wyverns are scavengers and as a result are less active and more tolerant of handling. They are also capable of limited echolocation, with wide frills that frame their faces and direct sound inward. Their nasal plates are often rested flat against the face, and are flared upwards in intimidation displays. Though an obligate carnivore, it is relatively easy to feed due to it being more resilient to bacteria than the rest of the crew - meaning it can safely eat meat that would otherwise need to be thrown away.

Dragonslayer lays eggs every few weeks, which are technically edible despite tasting awful. These are usually disposed of while Dragonslayer is out on exercise flights to prevent territorial aggression towards handlers or other mounts; if brooding persists, a stuffed dragon toy made out of scrap leather and dubbed 'Baby' is offered as a replacement for the missing eggs until its mood changes.
