Origin: Unova A retired battler; Squeakers has seen her shares of battles and while she doesn't enjoy fighting, she was willing to do it to protect and help Sam through his early adventures. Now, as Sam's personal companion, she got to put her battling days behind her to take luxury of sitting on Sam’s shoulders. She is always seen with him and is rarely ever in her pokeball, not even in a case of emergencies. Squeakers is Sam’s first best friend and she’s been through everything with him. She is an adorable ray of sunshine who tries to always look on the positive side and holds hope when things got rough. So, it was no wonder that she ends up being the optimistic one and the team's cheerleader. Even so far to have to be a good conscious for Sam to help him make good choices. Even though she never expects anything in return, Sam owes a lot to Squeakers for her support, loyalty, and unbreakable love. |

Origin: Alola Named after an inside joke with Sam during his days with Team Skull and residing in Shady House, Porkchop should not and never be taken lightly. He’s an intense battler, proud of his power, easily frustrated, and a serious competitor with a favorite hobby of putting his opponent’s foot in their mouth after teasing him for his size. He can come off as arrogant and conceited on the battlefield, but when the spotlight’s off, he’s actually quite of a big goof! He’s playful, excitable, and enjoys making others laugh. Ever since traveling with Sam and the team, he has developed curiousity and wanderlust in the world around them, wanting to battle as many 'mons as he can. He's usually the first to want to try new things. He may not always say the right things, not the most trustworthy guy to keep a secret, but he means well and will be there for you, no matter what. |
【Shamrock】
♂ Gogoat
Origin: Kalos Gifted to him by kind Baa de Mer Ranch owners, Shamrock was primarily used for transportation when they lived in Kalos but it was accidentally discovered that he’s a powerful opponent in battles as well. He prefers to attack from afar with his special attacks instead of relying on his brute strength. Despite all this, he's known to be a gentle giant; literally twice the size of an average Gogoat. Fortunately, he much rather spend his time relaxing and basking in the sun or laze about in a field of wildflowers. He's also a quiet soul, a goat of few words… In fact, it was often assumed that he was a mute. No one really knows why Shamrock doesn't talk much, conveying his thoughts with soft grunts and growls, but on the flip side, he's a great listener and has a welcoming presence. He lives life on the slower mellow side and takes the time to appreciate the good things around him, a lesson a lot of people should learn. |

♀ Flygon
Origin: Unova This is a dragon whose bite is much worse than her bark. Rodan is short-tempered and hot-headed, letting her actions be controlled by her emotions rather than logic. This makes it difficult for her to be vulnerable enough to bond and make friends. Her willingness to work with others is in short supply and her patience is even less. Nonetheless, she is a powerhouse, easily one of the strongest members on Sam’s team and she very well knows it. She’s agile and cunning, hitting hard and fast before the match really began. Which is why Sam likes to keep her on his main team, even when they conflict in personalities. Because of this, it does cause some friction between the two but despite her bad bitch attitude, Rodan do ultimately respects Sam and listens to him when needed, even if she feels differently. |
 【Espresso】
♂ Glaceon
Origin: Kalos, met Sam in Unova “Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I’m doing.” It was incredible fate that Espresso and Sam met during the trainer's attempt at gathering Unova's gym badges, this Glaceon is egocentric, carefree, and overly confident that can come off as charming or obnoxious. It can be difficult to keep him on a serious subject if it doesn’t concern him. He has an eye for style and showmanship, liking to keep clean and appreciating the finer things in life. He’s very clever and sarcastic, knowing how to manipulate the situation to go in his favor but he’s not selfish enough to purposefully hurt the people he cares about. Despite his proud nature, Espresso is a reliable friend, senselessly brave, and stands up for others who can’t defend themselves (a trait that was noticed early on when he would protect his brother Cappuccino from bullies). He’s fiercely loyal to Sam and will defend him with his life, even if it was his big mouth that got them in trouble in the first place. |

Origin: Johto Awkward and clumsy, Comet is the definition of someone who’s just trying her best in life. Unlike many of her teammates, she relates to Sam’s insecurities the most and is empathetic to his struggles with his self-worth. She’s supportive and compassionate, but sometimes to a fault as she would sacrifices her own needs and boundaries to help others. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is sensitive to changes, sometimes needing constant reassurance to remain calm. She’s came a long way since Johto, but she’s still working on her confidence and self-love. She’s not the best battler on the team but her strong psychic abilities have pulled the team through on more than one occasions. |
【Dragonfly】
♀ Shiny Hydreigon
Origin: Paldea Sometimes rotates with Samson in the team roster. Given the circumstances of their encounter, Sam thinks Dragonfly is literally lucky. After all, if it wasn’t for her intervention, Sam would’ve met his death at the bottom of Area Zero. Plus she’s a frickin’ shiny! Much to everyone’s surprise, this dark-typed dragon is not like many Hydreigons as she is carefree, easy-going, and friendly. She never bares her teeth as she understands the aggressive stereotype of her species and doesn’t want to be treated as such. She’s optimistic and looks for silver-linings in every situation, going with the flow. Dragonfly very much lives life in the present and rarely thinks about the future, not liking to unnecessarily worry. As a result, it can make her seem irresponsible, impulsive, and inconsiderate- especially when faced with a difficult challenge in which she’ll try to ignore if she can help it. Since she grew up in the cave’s darkness, she discovers that she has a huge sense of wonder and awe of life around her when Sam brings her into the world. This means Dragonfly, with Porkchop, is also most likely going to be the first one to try new things and explore unwalked paths to see what’s on the other side. Her curiosity is big and her heart is bigger. |

♂ Shiny Dachsbun
Origin: Paldea Sometimes rotates with Dragonfly in the team roster. A certified goodest boy, Samson aka Sammy is Sam’s first shiny pokemon and given his breed’s temperament, bonded very closely with his trainer. He is affectionate, a truly loyal pup as he never wants to be too far from those he cares about. Because of his separation anxieties, you will find this Dachsbun stubbornly following Sam around on the ranch and investigating everything. Even though he’s very playful and energetic, loving a good game of ball, Sammy is standoffish to strangers and will challenge other ‘mons larger than his size (but don't worry, his bark is worse than his bite). Samson has many nicknames but for some unknown reasons, he responds best to Sammy. Regardless, Sam is very aware of how confusing the names can get between him and his dog. |

Approachable and friendly, Sam is so easy-going, he can make everyone feel comfortable upon meeting him. Ever since his gender transition, Sam became more independent and confident than when he was young, but he still rather not have attention on him. It can be easy to forget when Sam is in the room because he tends to be quiet and reserved, keeping to himself unless he’s addressed. He’s not known to hold small grudges and is rarely spiteful, acting on the mantra of “treat others with how you want to be treated”. He’s very laid-back, has a calm energy, and does like to have a good time, but will not be easily open about himself. Despite being someone with low-energy and maintenance, Sam is unfortunately perpetually tired all the time: physically and mentally. Unhealthily, he tends to overwork himself into burnout and having a type of insomnia doesn’t help.
Due to his introvert nature and low social battery, Sam can sometimes come off as socially awkward, bored, and uninterested, especially in a group settings. If there’s too much noise or people over-talking each other, he’ll tune out since his deafness makes it difficult to follow conversations. Which is why Sam does best in quiet environments with few people, it's where his personality can really shine. Sam can actually be funny and has a dark humor in which he uses to make his friends laugh. He’s a wonderful listener, attentive to other’s needs, and trustworthy. He’s also very choosy about trusting people in his life and doesn’t get attached easily, so for those who he considers to be close with, he will fight for them, fiercely loyal to a fault, and will go above and beyond for them, no matter what. To those who he loves, Sam is extremely loving and while he’s not the best with words, he tries to show his affection by spoiling the shit out of them. Turns out that he’s quite the snuggle monster!
Sam doesn’t think himself as a smart man and is very indecisive in all choices he makes. Due to his overbearing parents growing up, he have people-pleasing tendencies (“fawning”), has a hard time saying “no” even when his boundaries are being disrespected, and will compulsively lie to avoid conflict and getting in trouble. By contrast, he thrives on recognition, especially for his work. He likes to feel useful and reliable. However, he hates to feel like a burden and would refuse to talk about his problems, so he will often bottle up his feelings and invalidate himself to avoid being vulnerable.
From all of his flaws, Sam likes to think he makes up for it with his strength. Because of his job, he’s physically strong and fit, hauling hay bales and fending off rowdy goats all day long. Being a dedicated driven hard-worker, Sam always gives his all into his projects and ensure that it gets done right while keeping a gentle hand with his pokemon. While it’s not the easiest workload, Sam actually enjoys the labor and prefers it over doing paperwork any day. He finds it very satisfying to get his hands dirty and be able to go to bed feeling accomplished. Despite being a procrastinator and tends to forget things if they’re not written down, Sam is an organized person with an eye for details. He works his best when he has his days planned out in advance, keeping things in their specific places, and doesn’t stray too far from routine.
Even though Sam has put his pokemon battling days behind him to focus on a more peaceful lifestyle, his experience and wisdom should never be underestimated if he gets challenged to a match. After all, he has 12 gym badges to prove himself to be a formidable opponent! His strategy is considered to be aggressive, liking to attack hard and fast to end a battle as quickly as he can, so a lot of the pokemon moves he chooses tends to be more on the offense side. While Sam no longer sees himself as a trainer, he doesn't mind a friendly match every once in a while- especially to appease the pokemon on his team who loves to battle and keep them in shape (and... y'know, not get destructive around his farm).
People would be surprised to know that Sam even has a creative side to him. He doesn’t get the opportunity to draw much these days since he’s so focused on his career, but he’s a fairly decent cartoonist. He also likes to apply his creativity to building fun enrichment for his ranch ‘mons. However, because his job demands a lot out of him, Sam is more likely to spend his downtime watching movies with Selenia and doing sticker puzzles to unwind.

Sam met Selenia in a pokemon behavioral course at the Naranja Academy in Paldea… and she didn’t even really notice him at first. He wanted to be her friend and tried to strike up a conversation with her, but seeing how both of them were shy introverts, it didn’t go as smoothly as he liked. It wasn’t until they were partnered up for a hoof-trimming course did she realize that he was actually interesting and most importantly, they shared the same dark humor and he made her laugh. They grew very close very quickly as they started spending most of their free-time together outside of class until he finally gathered the nerves to ask her out on a date. Since then, the two have been inseparable and she even moved to his ranch in Alola after they've completed their studies.
When he got to know her, Selenia was kind and generous, enjoying treating him to little things that she knew he liked. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and gets passionate about pokemon keeping, spending time in learning all she can to provide the best wellbeing to those in her care. Everything she does, Sam finds new reasons to adore and admire her- even when she turns out to be a chaotic gremlin. She is one of the few people who knows the baggage he carries and in spite of it, Selenia has never left his side and tries to support him, especially when he’s hard on himself. They’re always finding new ways to laugh and to explore the world around them together. Sam loves her wholeheartedly and can’t wait to marry her.
It’s a small world out there. Gus is a pokemon ranger who’s stationed in Alola- even living on the same exact island as Sam but the two would never have crossed paths if it wasn’t for their Leafeon and Glaceon amazingly recognizing each other. It turns out, Espresso and Cappuccino are brothers! Not wanting to separate them again for the second time, Sam and Gus were kinda-sorta forced to spend time together so the eevee brothers can make up for lost time and surprisingly, they’ve become good friends from it.
Sam and Gus learned that they share the same interests, the same taste in music, and the same humor, that they can spend hours just talking! In fact, while they were telling each other stories of their younger days, they even figured out that they HAVE met before but facing opposite sides- when Sam was in Team Skull and Gus was trying to help stop the Ultra Beasts from taking over the world. Now in hindsight, that event became something they find hilarious and joke about it. Even though Gus tends to be more playful and likes to tease him, Sam still considers him a close friend and would often ask him for advice and ideas. After all, as they’ve proven, their friendship is truly strong enough to withstand the test of time.
Auron is still a relatively new friend of Sam’s, but after all the shit they went through in Paldea, the two remain close even after Sam returned home to Alola. The boys met in a battle-studies course at the Academy and would get paired up to battle each other- there, Sam learns that Auron specializes in bird pokemon and he was quite good at it too. However, they eventually went on their own paths as the school year went on. It wasn’t until the end of Sam’s final semester did Auron reach out to him about an exploration mission at Area Zero with a few of their classmates. That mission almost turned deadly when the group got lost and Sam nearly died if it was not for a shiny Zweilous who rescued him. In the aftermath when they finally reach the surface, Auron felt guilty for dragging Sam along and promised he would make it up to him somehow. Even though that adventure was a terrifying ordeal, Sam held no grudge over Auron- if anything, the boys' friendship grew stronger from it and the two still talk often despite the distance.
Early Life
Samuel Gray was born in Icirrus City, Unova region where he was raised by his parents, Elizabeth and Andrew Gray. At birth, Sam had severe hearing loss that lead to him eventually being diagnosed fully deaf in his toddler years. At age 4, his parents took him to Castelia City to get a cochlear implant, a surgery that would enable him to hear; because of this, the family has to make often visitation during his childhood for his check-ups. His father travels to Mistralton City to work as a mechanic for airplanes while his mother was a teacher for young children. Sam also has 4 siblings, which 3 were adopted from his aunt on his mother’s side when she passed from cancer.
Elizabeth and Andrew has high expectations in Sam, especially since he was their first-born and handicapped, constantly pushing him to overcome his challenges to make him independent and to show that he’s just as capable as a hearing person (jokes on them, it just gave him low self-esteem, molded him into a compulsive liar to avoid trouble, and is powered by strong people-pleasing tendencies that often times sacrifices his own needs. So healthy!). When he was a young teenager, Sam had befriended a small Rattata who was found digging in their trash one night. Because of the raspy squeaking noises she makes when happy, Sam fondly named her Squeakers.
Johto Life :: 2005
Because of his ease with Squeakers, Sam’s parents heavily pressured him into becoming a pokemon trainer (it was “an opportunity that they never had”), but they had feared the gangs in the cities and decided to send him to Johto to start his journey in 2005, when he was 16 years old. Sam decided on a Chikorita (Halo) and they were off! Unfortunately, he was finding out that he wasn’t enjoying the adventure like he had hoped and was overwhelmed by the unfamiliarity of new locations and new people. Along the way, he met with a few people from Team Rocket. Granted, the organization was small after it's been defeated and rebanded several times in the past, there was a slow traction to their attempt at returning to glory- Sam was young, inexperienced, and had wanted to feel like he could belong somewhere, so he was influenced to join the group. As part of the on-boarding process, he was given an Ekans (Pandora) to add to his team.
While Team Rocket’s morals didn’t sit right with Sam, especially since it was afterwards did he learned what they ultimately wanted with pokemon, he couldn’t leave easily and was intimidated to stay. So he continues his journey and go where he is needed; in doing so, he managed to catch a wild Girafarig (Comet), hatched a Togepi from an egg (Skittles), and collected 4 gym badges (Zephyr, Hive, Plain, and Fog).
The final straw came when he stumbled in Team Rocket’s labs and discovered that they were abusing a glitched Porygon, trying to create something new from it (the “best version it could possibly be” they claim, what a load of shit). Unable to abide by their cruelty for any longer, Sam stole the Porygon (Error) and fled the region, returning back to Unova, wanting to be back to a place where life was familiar to him.
Unova Life :: 2006
Back in his home region, not even a full year later, Sam felt embarrassed and desperately wanted to make his parents happy and proud, he made an effort to “start over”. He left his team (with the exception of Squeakers) at home and started a new badge-collection journey in Unova this time. He chose an Oshawott (Maverick) and was off once more. He knew that battling wasn’t his real passion and in many conversation he had with his mother about it, she guilted him in sticking with it and promised that life would be better once he finishes his journey.
It was during this period is when Sam started questioning his gender identity, so he was really struggling to keep his head above the water that was his depression and anxiety and self-worth. Despite his personal endeavor, he managed to travel all over Unova and collected all 8 gym badges with his team that consisted of: Samurott (Maverick), Glaceon (Espresso), Zoroark (Romeo), Zebstrika (Zelda), Haxorus (Godzilla), and Flygon (Rodan). Sam learned a lot, met new people along the way, and even started dating someone who was introduced by his brother- a kind man who wanted to be a pastry chef named Jeffrey. After a few years and deciding that his efforts was good enough, especially having the badges to prove it, Sam decided that he did not wanted to challenge the Elite Four much to his parent’s dismay.
Since making this choice, Sam realized that he was left without a purpose. After doing everything his parents wanted him to do and not thinking of what he truly want to pursue, he was lost. He didn't want to stay with his parents either for he knew this would be something they'd hold over his head. In search for a job and a change of scenery, hopeful for inspiration, Sam moved to Virbank City with his partner, Jeff. With a large city, it did came with opportunities. Jeff worked in a poke’puff shop while Sam worked in a craft store, selling art supplies and helping customers with their projects. Despite being good at his job and making money, eventually climbing the ranks to be a receiving manager, Sam was still no closer to figuring out what he wanted to do with his life. This was feeding into his depression. To make matters worse, he realized that he was feeling stagnant with his relationship with Jeff and neither of them were truly thriving. After almost 6 years together, Sam broke up with him and moved back in with his parents in Icirrus City.
After encouragements from close friends, Sam decided to attend therapy sessions and it was only then did Sam finally decided to accept himself to be transgender. Naturally, he wanted to start his transition and that meant he would need to come out to people. Unfortunately, when he finally gathered the courage to tell his parents, they did not take the news well. Feeling betrayed and angry that he does not have their support, Sam packed whatever he could fit into one bag, dumped his pokemon (again with the exception of Squeakers) into his PC boxes, and ran away. Using the money he earned from his job, he bought a one-way boat ticket to Alola- wanting to get as far away as he possibly can.
Alola Life :: 2014
When arriving to bright sunny Alola, Sam was in the darkest place in his life. With no plan and feeling completely alone, he wandered Alola without a purpose which made him vulnerable and easy pickings for Team Skull to convince him to join. Unlike Team Rocket, Sam was surprised to find himself feeling more at home in Shady House with Team Skull than he ever did back in Unova with his family. He was able to relate to many of the member’s personal struggles and found effortless friendship in them. Surrounded by support for the first time in his life, Sam was able to officially change his legal name, start HRT, and socially transition.
Old habits die hard, there was an Alolan Rattata living somewhere in Shady House and Sam had been feeding him scraps whenever he can. He would tease the skittish pokemon that their friendship was superficial because of food and the rattata would run off with a porkchop at first chance. Eventually their relationship became solid, a fellow Team Skull member gave Sam a Dusk Ball, and Porkchop the Rattata was officially Sam’s. Sam rescued a Rockruff who quickly became part of his team during his stay in Alola, which was helpful in keeping himself protected and to help out Team Skull wherever he can.
However, all good things eventually ends. His life came crashing down once more when he learns that Team Skull had been under Aether Foundation’s president Lusamine’s control and the team was forced to disband after Guzma’s return from the Ultra wormhole. Side blinded, Sam’s history repeats as he quickly scrapped together some cash in desperate attempt to leave Alola and the hurt it caused him. And so, another one-way boat ticket- this time, it was to Kalos.
Kalos Life :: 2016
Since Team Skull had to steal money just to survive, Sam wasn’t left with a lot of money in his disposal when arriving to an entirely new region. Refusing to ask for help, he set out to find a job and he happened to be at a right place at a right time when Lumiose City’s Gogoat Shuttle company was in need of people to help tend to their Gogoats. Immediately smitten by the goat creatures when he first saw one, Sam knew he had to have one for himself one day. The job doesn’t pay well enough to pay for an apartment just yet, so he was forced to live in Courmaline City in one of their hotel and make the commute for work.
During one of his commute, he stumbled across Route 12 and discovered a wondrous place known as Baa de Mer Ranch- home of skiddos. Here, Sam volunteers his weekends to assist care to their skiddos. The ranch owners were so gracious for his help and noticed that the commute is rough on the young man, so they offered him to take one of their best Skiddo. Thrilled, Sam chose a skiddo that he had already grew close with and named him Shamrock. Eventually, he also got to add a Tyrunt (Dean) to his team when Shamrock accidentally discovered a fossil.
As life began to settle in a comfortable routine and more free time was opening up for Sam, his gender dysphoria became an issue. Social transition was not enough anymore. Taking a financial risk, he went in for a surgery for double-mastectomy, hysterectomy, and salpingo-oophorectomy. It ended up being one of the best decision he has ever made and Sam was finally happy.
After spending some time in Kalos, working hard and learning about the care of Skiddos and Gogoats, Sam suddenly realized that this is all he wants to have a happy simple life: to have his own ranch and run a breeding program of these amazing animals. So he started saving up money and for the first time, planned his future...
Home Life :: 2017 and onward~
When Sam was 28 years old, he was able to save enough money to at least get started and decided to move back to Alola to buy a piece of land on Akala Island that would become his own Skiddo Ranch. He realized that, despite parting on bad terms, he really did had good memories in this region. This was where he discovered himself and grew into who he was meant to be; additionally, he still have good friends for support here as well. It wasn’t an easy start in developing the land, but once he figured it out, his business blossomed. Skiddos were not naive to Alola and there were plentiful farm land that they quickly became popular addition to farmer’s collections.
While Sam will be mostly found at his ranch, he does still travel as needed- especially to trade in other regions. He even made a brief visit to Galar to trade one of his skiddos for a Wooloo (Yahzi). Knowing that he still has much to learn about goat care and the breeding world, he decided to bite the bullet and go for some specialized schooling. In 2021, he attended a 6-months course at Naranja Academy in Paldea region for a breeding program and a hoof trimming program.
Not only did he get more knowledge in doing his business more effectively when he returns home, Sam found new friends in Auron (bird-specialist), Samson (shiny Dachsbun), and Dragonfly (shiny Hydreigon). Amazingly, he also met the love of his life here as well, a fiercely passionate woman known as Selenia, through a pokemon behavioral course. Currently, she lives with him on his ranch with her own team of pokemon and after two years of dating, Sam proposed to her on the farm and she happily said yes. 💕
