lost works as a lighthouse keeper, keeping the lamp lit to ensure sailors don't crash upon the rocky shore;

however, this lighthouse is haunted by a malevolent spirit that likes to inhabit his body. during possession, his body rejects the spirit and tries to expel the ghost, resulting in yellow... stuff coming from his eyes, nose, gills, and mouth. 

the ghost can be contained in a lantern for a little while, but it's quite powerful and typically escapes. as a result, lost is in a constant state of anxiety and stress.
