Shasta

Shasta is the famed "Magician of the Blades" by those in the Dog Demon Resistance and beyond. However, despite his successes and impressive feats, he has gone through extremely traumatic racism-based experiences while striving for Tool Meisterhood, and the effects of them are still with him, even if he denies it. Prior to Kōtetsu's governance of The Resistance, discrimination against non-Folk Anthros was a common occurrence, and Shasta faced some of the worst of such policies and mindsets.

The Folk Anthros in The Resistance, including the previous Governor, constantly tampered with his weapons and magic flow, and set up their sparring courses so that they were always against Shasta's (and other non-Folk Anthros') favor, even if meant rigging the match and bribing the Mentors into treating him harshly. Their tampering of his magic flow and work has gotten so bad to the point where he wasn't able to make a living, and ended up evicted from his apartment with no home to call his own. Instead, he slept in the temporary guest room of The Resistance's HQ.

Shasta was eventually able to claw his way to the top by force, kicking out and defeating the other Resistance members and Mentors, but the experience left him extremely cut-throat, bitter, aggressive, arrogant, and hollow. Even after Kōtetsu saved his life, gave him a place to stay, and repealed the discriminative policies and punished the offenders, Shasta still holds lot of pain and contempt in his heart, and allows his skills to stagnate as to him, he has nothing else to work for in terms of skills.
