 Brief history:
Ess was dropped in an orphanage by his parents when he was 7years old. He never talked much but he was always smiling. His actions were always speaking for him.
Always taking care of other kids and sharing everything with them. Unfortunately, the orphanage was shut down when he was 10years old.
He end up on a street with a couple other kids. And every time they got some food, instead of eating he was giving what he had to other kids.
Eventually, he died from starvation and illness.
But it wasnt the end of his story. La Muerte- the death herself was so moved by his pure heart she decided to give him life once more.
He was literally adopted after death.
In the afterlife, he met a boy named Charles and the quickly became inseparable. They were always there for each other.
Charles was a son of the Death Angel, so he wasn't really very likable by other people. Because of the friendship with him, Charles was the only friend Ess had.
It was never a problem.
In high school  those two became lovers but they never said the world relationship because they knew that as soon as Charles will become od age
he will have to start working and they won't be able to see each other anymore.
When the time came they went their separate ways, seeing each other only once a year on the day of the dead.
Ess never thought about Charles with sadness. He still keeps their photo as a wallpaper on his phone screen. And he still loves him but they both had to move on.
After high school he became a painter, living with a small salary, but still helping others in any way he can.
      
The second life gave him not only another chance and permanent sugar skull makeup but also an ability to heal organs and bones but also break them

The superhero AU:
Ess dedicated his life to help people and mutants for free.
One day he met Sam, while helping the young mutants in his care.
Those two quickly became friends and even if he will never forget Charles, he fell for a sweet smile of a small rebellious artist with a good heart.
