Introduction · · ·

Elias Ulrich Schäfer is a composer, musician, and musical director of his own orchestra. A master over many instruments but mainly plays piano and string instruments. Widely considered a pioneering genius of music, there is no musician worth their salt who doesn't know who Elias is.

However, ever since the sudden appearance of a certain dazzling star, he has all but been pushed aside and labeled as a "has been." Now, Elias struggles to put himself back into the spotlight... and figure out why that woman won't leave him alone?!

Personality · · ·

An eccentric perfectionist. Overly serious and stern, Elias is known for being extremely hard on his musicians, wanting the absolute best from them. Some have heard that he spends over two hours on a single measure to get it exactly how he wants it to sound. He is also known for clashing with composers/musicians and not getting along with others, making people see him as an arrogant and cold person. Never seeming to leave his house, he only goes out to exercise and to rehearse/perform with this orchestra. Other than that, he is inside either thinking up a new song or playing his instruments. Thus, Elias has little to no friends.

Despite the gossip surrounding him, his orchestra speaks highly of him. If you spend enough time with him, you will eventually see that he is simply an old man deeply passionate about his craft. He is only hard on people because he genuinely believes in them and their potential and cares a lot about the musicians in his orchestra. He is also a lot more approachable than most people think, despite his seemingly permanent cold expression. And if you are willing to learn, then he is always willing to teach you. Just be prepared to give your all, because he won't accept half-hearted effort!

...Anyways, if you were to ever head out to anywhere with him, it's important to keep a close eye on him. Elias tends to get lost in his own head and wander about aimlessly, marvelling at buildings and looking for anything that might inspire him. There were many times during tours, his orchestra had to look around towns and cities to find him. He is also extremely lonely, but he vehemently denies and ignores this. Honestly, what a troublesome old man.

Kind-Hearted

Not a lot of people know this about him, however. If you come to him with a problem, he will do whatever he can to help you while gently wiping tears from your eyes. He also hates seeing children cry.

Extremely Stubborn and Headstrong

Elias often clashes with other composers and musicians due to his more experimental composing while being a bit too blunt about their work. He is more flexible with those he trusts, however.

Very Polite

He sees himself as a gentlemen and will only lose himself when his specific buttons get pushed. Even then, however, he'll still address the person with a Herr, Frau, or Mx.

Open-Minded

Elias believes that all genres of music are beautiful and should be pushed to their absolute potential. He is willing to try anything once and his eagerness can sometimes match that of a child.

What does music mean to me? Was soll ich sagen... To me, music is everything. The embodiment of the soul, the universal language of the world...! It can make grown men tremble and children weep for joy. Absolutely beautiful. And for me to have the privilege to create using such a language... That is why, even if only one person understands my music... it is all worth it in the end.

Trivia · · ·

Actually quite fit. He exercises daily and has a healthy diet. He believes that the body is like an instrument and thus should be treated with care.
...However this all flies out the window when he gets inspired. Focusing solely on his music, he'll barely eat, sleep, or shower until he gets everything on paper. If you drag him out of the house during this, he'll get pouty and grumpy.
He loves graffiti art and highly respects street artists. He believes that they are the words of the unspoken and loves the bright and vivid colors. He'll sometimes take strolls around the city to admire them and for inspiration.
Does not care at all for wealth or status. If you try to bribe him or use your status, he'll scoff at you and politely excuse himself from the conversation.
A substantial amount of the money he makes from his compositions tends to go into supporting his orchestra and its tours. Another large amount is donated to those that are need. He seldom keeps much cash for his own use.
Hasn't had a partner in years. Insanely touch-starved. He has had several committed relationships in the past but they would ultimately fall apart due to him being too focused on his career (something that he regrets). Sometimes, during brief respites from his writing, he would long to hold someone in his arms. However, he believes it is too late for him to search for romance and chastise himself.
He once composed an entire symphony based on an extremely spicy dish he had. It was a huge success.
Pursued music simply because he wanted to make others smile with his songs. Whether or not he remembers this reason is unknown.

Backstory · · ·

Growing up as an only child, Elias was surrounded by music. His father was a luither and his mother was an elementary school teacher who taught him piano. When he grew of age, he decided to pursue music as his higher form of education, already being quite obsessed with it. Praised by his teachers for his talents, Elias thought he would be headed for early stardom and recognition.

However... when Elias left to make his own name, he was quickly bombarded with criticisms for his compositions and was quickly discarded and forgotten. The next two decades of his life would be difficult, where he would struggle to pay rent and often went to bed hungry. Any famous orchestra he would audition for would choose musicians with higher social positions or wealth. In the end, he jumped between different, lesser known ensembles that did not pay well. Yet, he did not stop composing and always found time to work on his own projects. Years past and Elias began to fear for his life as his empty wallet became emptier and his hollow stomach became hollower. Until...

His Breakthrough · · ·

Now closing in onto his 40s, a breakthrough occurred, or rather, a spot of luck. It was during a time where the stylistic trends of music were shifting, and people were looking for something to lead them. It was then a well-known critic during that time accidentally came across one of Elias' old works and became enamored with his work. There, his past and more current works began to gain traction all over the world. In the next couple of months, Elias was considered a genius and lauded for his unique compositions. His songs soon found themselves on the music stands of almost every musical ensemble out there.

Wasting no time, with fame and fortune on his side, he began building what he had always wanted to build--his very own orchestra. From there, he would go on to travel the world, see many beautiful sights, and more importantly, continue to create wonderful melodies. His life was now busier than ever and Elias would not have it any other way. His heart full, he continued to pave the way for musicians and composers to follow. However, the ever-shifting trends slowly began to change and with it, people's attention on him...

Now · · ·

Despite people's waning attention on him, Elias did not care. He continued to play, write, and conduct. That is all Elias ever wanted to do, so why should it matter as long as he could afford his own food? However, these idealistic thoughts came crashing down when a prodigy, both beautiful and talented, suddenly appeared.

Once again, Elias saw himself being tossed aside as he watched critics and fans follow Hien Lam's every footsteps. The musical trend became whatever Hien Lam sang or played and his fame was thrown out of the window. Now labeled as "outdated," Elias began to resent Hien with every fiber of his being. Despite his attempts in being humble, he had subconsciously grown an ego--which was now in tatters because of her. He avoided her like the plague: always finding excuses to not visit her concerts or operas, ripping apart compositions that people suggested should be played by her, and almost popped a vein when he got an application from her to be his concertmaster. It wasn't until that faithful day... did he accept her application, let her audition, and let her into his orchestra. Now, he struggles with juggling his negative feelings, Hien's chaffing, and properly being her conductor.

Has a complicated relationship
Hien Lam

Resentment for making him obsolete. Envious of her youth and jealous of her talents. Elias despises Hien and sees her as a flirty, lazy musician who only chases after fame and glory. He tells himself she only got this far because of her looks and is nowhere near as talented as him due to the experience he has cultivated over the years. His dislike for her is only deepened by her constant teasing and persistent presence around him during rehearsals (even though she is her concertmaster and thus should be working close with him).

...However, deep down he knows. During that faithful night, when he first heard her sing. Something else other than loathing had stirred in his heart... but what?

His dear friend
Lajita Tamil

Elias' one and only friend. He deeply appreciates his friendship with her and often seeks her out to talk. When they do, he mostly does the talking while she listens. He considers her his greatest confidant and trusts her opinions greatly. He also conducted his first concert at her theatre and would go through great lengths to assist her if needed.

Admires her
Ling

They once met per chance at an abandoned building. After talking, he was invited to sit and watch her tag a wall. He accepted and sat there, eyes filled with sparkling admiration and wonder. Elias doesn't mind that Ling speaks so brazenly to him, unlike most people. Afterall, he too thought his elders were stuffy, old snobs. He does not know her relations with Hien.
