Tao Shen

EARLY LIFE.

Born to parents Xiaoting and Zhu Shen, Tao was born with an affinity for exploration and travel. First his interests surrounded his home planet, all the various wonders of the world, and all the countries he had yet to experience. But, having the ability to see every corner of the world through textbooks or on the internet dissapointed him. Shen wanted to see that which few eyes had laid upon, what went undocumented, what couldn't be documented. Otherworldly. Past their galaxy. Things that only the most skilled and trained could venture to see.

At the age of 17, Shen graduated early from high school in his home of Baoshan, Shanghai and moved overseas to the United States to begin his study and training for space exploration. For many years, Shen was set back from his passion, stuck in two full time jobs in Augusta, Maine to support himself and save up for his study. This part of Shen's life lasted approximately three years until finally, at the age of 20, he was accepted into his academy. The soon-to-be Captain studied for three years, then trained for another five. After the eight years at his academy, he was awarded exellence awards and was promoted to a Captain's position after a year of work, at the age of 30.

CURRENT DAY.

Shortly after Shen's promotion, he was assigned to his first mission as Captain: A four year venture past galaxies for classified reason. Shen was assigned a small crew to accompany him, namely, a liutenant, medic, mechanic, and navigator. After a year aboard the ship, Shen developed a romantic relationship with his mechanic, Gnel. Two years later, after three years aboard their four year journey, a horrific accident occured on the ship. The details remain classified, and Shen was the sole survivor of his crew. This has since burdened him with the callsign "Ghost."

Shen is currently two years into a five year mission, only being granted a year break after the incident on his other ship. He's weary of commanding another crew, living with the guilt of being the sole survivor of his first crew, whom he'd grown incredibly close to. Despite this stuggle, Shen remains a hard-working and successful captain, doing anything he possibly can to keep his crew happy and healthy.

SLEEPWALK.romantic interest

More commonly known as it's callsign "Creature," Sleepwalk is the head of the medical wing of Shen's current crew. A 1,500 year old extraterrestrial from the planet OGLE-TR-56b (Known as "Teer" by it's inhabitants, "Teerans.") Sleepwalk is from the upper crust of it's planet, granting it an insect-like appearance, particularly, that of a mantis. Shen and Sleepwalk have known eachother for approximately two years, meeting only when they were both assigned to their current mission, where Shen's new crew formed. Shen has developed strong feelings for Sleepwalk in those two years, causing him to appear a bit frazzled around the other occasionally. He's uncertain if Sleepwalk feels the same, and is too paranoid to explore the possibility, especially considering his past. Despite this, the two are friends and enjoy eachother's company.

GNEL.late significant other

Gnel (NEL,) known as "Dryad," was the sole mechanic of Shen's original crew. He was a 104 year old Shryyn (SHREE-yen) from home planet MKWY-SY-2 (Known as Shry (SHRI) to it's inhabitants.) Gnel and Shen similarly met when they were assigned to the same mission. The two got along incredibly well, and together blossomed a romantic relationship after a year aboard their ship. The relationship lasted two years, only ending due to Gnel's tragic passing from the incident. Shen has yet to entirely recover from this loss.
