Kelpseed was originally a loner who lived by a Twolegplace closed to the rural parts of California. He tended to hunt the mice in barns, but he also spent time giving advice to other cats and offering to heal wounds for any troubled cats. However, he gave up that life at a young age and travelled to the coast where Shoreclan resides. At first, he was a warrior, but he developed a condition that caused him to lose his sight. Due to his brief previous healing skills, he was promoted to the respected rank of a medicine cat.
