Mareus once believed that his father was a tiefling, but in his adolescence, he discovered that he was, in fact, a spawn of Graz'zt. An attempt to connect with him ended poorly, resulting in him being disowned and enslaved in Abyss for three years under the lamia queen, Louvia. His mother finally managed to rescue him with an arrangement with Graz'zt, but the damage was done, and he told her resented her almost as much as he did the demon lord. After learning the arrangement in question involved her being indentured to Graz'zt instead, he left to start his quest for vengeance all along the Sword Coast, taking up a vow to vanquish evil and deliver justice. He hopes to find information on his mother's whereabouts and rescue her.
