Twilight was a normal feral wolf when she was born, living in a decently-sized pack in a large nature preserve. She was part of a very big batch of several litters, so she grew up among lots of siblings, and was able to slip away from the safety of the adults' watch along with the others for her own solitary adventures. During one of these adventures, she and some of her littermates went exploring, and managed to find their way out of the preserve. They stumbled into a part of the forest often visited by poachers from the nearby town, and caught the eye of a small hunting party that shot first and asked questions only when they realized that they'd shot a juvenile wolf - they simply left twilight's body where it fell.

While the area was often visited by poachers, it was more known for being a place where troublemaking teenagers could go to do their weird rituals in the woods at night. The energy left in the area from so many mediocre spells and attempted demon summonings brought her back to life after a while, but not as the wolf she was before she died. It's unclear what she is exactly - her temperament when angered suggests that she's some kind of ghost, but she also can't enter churches that aren't abandoned or touch crosses, so she could potentially be demonic in nature as well. Either way, she awoke with a much sharper mind and a lot of dark power to use with it, and she decided to use these new abilities to go enjoy the society she'd seen from distant hilltops. The first thing she did was sneak into a rave, and she found the spiked collar that she wears now on the ground.
