Story
Originally from Mexico, Olivia came to the US with her father six years ago, in 1892. They eventually settled down in Tumbleweed for a while, where her father worked as a farrier and Olivia helped him out, which allowed her to build connections to the other workers at the stables. Her father moved on after a few months, but Olivia decided to stay. She continued working as the farrier’s assistant until she started delivering telegrams in 1895, the same year Ada arrived in Tumbleweed.
The two met at the stables and immediately formed a strong bond. Both of them were alone, both of them were women working in a male-dominated environment, and both of them did enjoy a drink or two in the saloon after work, which is always a solid base for a long-lasting relationship. It was actually Ada who encouraged her to take up the telegram delivery full-time.
While Olivia is generally pretty content with her life, she does sometimes feel like there is something missing. She loves her work, but with the many telegrams she delivers and people she meets, she can’t help but realize that the world is much bigger than the little part she knows. Ada sometimes tells her about the ‘east’, but always just enough to spark her interest, never enough to satisfy her curiosity.
Since most of her belongings fit into a single saddlebag, and she has them with her during all of her jobs anyway, she has seriously considered simply not returning to Tumbleweed after a delivery to Armadillo more than once.
Personality
Lately she’s been feeling a little lost, still trying to figure out her place in the world. Especially when she sees how Ada has settled in in Tumbleweed, and how happy she is, Olivia thinks that she must feel the same about her life, then feels guilty when she doesn’t.
She’s generally calm and collected, and much more level-headed than Ada.
Struggles with the way her current lifestyle makes (romantic) relationships difficult, as she is usually a pretty social person, but also loves the solitude of the road.
She’s easy going, sometimes so much so that she’s hesitant to take up space for herself.
