"identify yourself!" were the first words ever spoken to the strange creature's face. "identify?" it asked, merely echoing the other's words without realising their true meaning. "you know... what is your identity?" the other reiterated.
"Identity..." the shapeshifter repeated to themself over and over. it seemed to like that word a lot. it's a shame they don't know what it means. maybe it can mean *something*, they thought. henceforth, they applied that word to their own being, and answering only to that word - Identity.

you would think the many tentacles on their body would strongly hint at them being some sort of octopus, and their default form does resemble one, however the multiple eyes scattered around their body cast those assumptions onto shaky ground. their true nature has been a big topic of speculation amongst those it encounters; maybe they're some sort of experiment, escaped from a lab? or perhaps they are an alien, concieved in a spaceship that then crash-landed onto Mobius. Identity only remembers living a free life out in the open and does not remember anything before that - or at least they say so, but their words are not to be trusted. are they being vague and mysterious on purpose? or is this just a huge misunderstanding due to a shaky grasp at language?

Identity is a shapeshifting menace and a very chaotic being, only doing whatever they feel like without considering consequences nor morals, nor the safety of those around them. they seem to be doing fine on their own right now, but they have expressed interest in potentially befriending someone. though their selfish personality makes it really hard for anyone at all to even consider that, ID is not aware of the boundaries of friendship, and will often refer to anyone they come across as their friend - maybe repeating it enough times will make it true! don't try to make them stop, they won't take the hint even if you act aggressive towards them - after all, nothing can hurt them!

they seem to have no weaknesses and are impossible to capture. put in a prison? they'll just turn into liquid and seep through any cracks in the confinement. hacked into pieces? good luck breaking through their imprenetrable skin, and even if you do, they have incredible regenerative abilities and can piece themselves together with no issue. surely there must be something that can stop them, even if only temporarily. if it cannot be captured through regular means, maybe supernatural measures must be taken here.
