Basic Info:

Laura was raised in an abusive home in Oregon. Her parents sheltered her to an extreme degree, and as a result she is emotionally stunted and withdrawn. At age 21, in 1990, her parents try to marry her off to her childhood best friend. This is the last straw for Laura and she breaks down, impulsively deciding to run away from home. Still in her nightgown, she hitchhikes out to the middle-of-nowhere Washington, and eventually decides to end her life by drowning herself in a random creek by the side of a road.

It turns out that there is a house right next to the creek, owned by a man named Drew, who manages to pull her out of the water before she can actually inhale any water. Drew carries her inside, helps her dry off, and gives her a bed to sleep in— Laura is simultaneously grateful and indignant at this, but ends up explaining her situation to him in the simplest terms possible. He decides to let her stay in his basement suite, and the rest is history. The moment that Laura shows her face in town at Drew's side the curious locals decide that the two must be newlyweds, and Laura chooses to play along, her girlish crush on Drew growing.

Personality:

Laura is shy, gloomy, and repressed, both sexually and emotionally. She acts more like a teen girl than an adult woman most of the time, but she isn't unreasonable? She becomes more stubborn and hot-headed after running away, as it wasn't possible to express anger or frustration around her parents. She likes positive attention and flusters easily. She is interested in fashion, makeup, journaling, and music.

Appearance:

Laura is pale, with hazel eyes and flax-y strawberry blonde hair (for stylistic/artistic purposes her hair is more of a peach or coral colour). She leaves it long and wavy with wispy curtain bangs. If I were to assign her a face-claim it would probably be a young Jessica Lange or Robin Wright. She is 5'5" and lean-bodied, but with slight curves.

Background:

Laura is the only child of extremely controlling and religious parents. The closest thing she ever had to a brother was her childhood best friend, Eric, the friend her parents tried marrying her off to out of nowhere. She then learns that Eric had known about this plan and been lusting after her in secret for years, which breaks her heart. She never had crushes growing up, except on older male teachers and old hollywood heartthrobs.
