Born in Zimbabwe to Catholic missionaries as the fourth of six children, Lucy grew up travelling the world. At eleven years old, shortly after his youngest sibling was born, they moved back to the U.S. for good. The transition into regular schooling was very difficult for him and he struggled a lot with being stuck in one place. The support of his brother Jordan helped him get through, though, and he eventually settled into suburban life. It was at fifteen that he began to struggle with his identity. Growing up he'd always considered himself a tomboy, but after reaching high school he began to experience dysmorphia and had a hard time relating to the girls at school. He first talked to Jordan about it and began privately identifying as male. At sixteen he officially came out to his family to a mostly warm reception. He decided to keep his name, but asked his mother to pick out a new middle name for him, which helped ease his parents into the change. Now they are all entirely accepting, with the exception of his younger sister Kayla, who still does not speak to him. He got top surgery at nineteen.

Lucy has always had medical issues. He's worn glasses since he was young and was diagnosed with both asthma and ADD around twelve years old. Growing up he often had a hard time keeping up with everyone else around him, either due to his physical restrictions or his inability to pay attention. His breathing began to worsen around the time he graduated high school and got steadily worse. His doctors were at a loss, and he went through all kinds of testing before eventually being diagnosed with stage II lung cancer at nineteen years old. His family were devastated, but he kept up a cheery disposition. A year later he was announced to be in partial remission, which meant the treatment was working, but he was also handed down an additional diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. He spends a lot of time in and out of the hospital for treatment and has to carry around a bag filled with his medicines and inhalers. Despite this, he refuses to let anyone treat him like he's fragile. He hates sympathy more than anything. As such, he often keeps his conditions to himself around new people, blaming his breathlessness solely on his asthma. He also refuses to sit at home with parents hovering over him, often going out to parks and libraries to explore the world in quiet.
