☆ Ainsworth ‘Sun-Snatcher’ Sundale
-  Ainsworth is a name based upon the Anglo-Saxon word “worth”, which meant “enclosure”. While Sundale is a play on the word “sun dial”, referencing his knack for charting and good sense of direction.
- His middle name is his pirate alias; see background for more.

☆ Cartography: ever since he was little, Ainsworth loved drawing maps. There was just something satisfying about knowing exactly where everything is around you, along with the excitement of finding something new to add to the map. Ainsworth yearned to find places uncharted, and be the one to discover the mysteries of the sea.

ғʀɪᴇɴᴅs:

Shiranui; when Ainsworth ran away from home, he found a new home in the Suiren Shrine, owned at the time by Shiranui. After years of sparing and bonding, the two agreed to be brothers. Ainsworth told Shiranui of his past and Shiranui instantly agreed to keep his secret and help hide him; the two might not be brothers by blood, but they are definitely brothers by fate.

Sawyer; Sawyer is always there to help dock Ainsworth's ship and care for it while he's visiting home. Often times, Sawyer will even go out sailing with Ainsworth when he has free time. Because of this, Ainsworth has tried to recruit him to his pirate crew multiple times to no avail. Sawyer pretends to be annoyed by these requests, but he actually greatly appreciates them. He hopes to accept the request one day.

☆ “Opposing Forces: the Sun and Sea”

☆ Ainsworth’s magic renders him incapable of touching water. He can drink water and anything else just fine- but any form of liquid cannot make contact with his exterior.

☆ Ainsworth’s home was a desert island country, where rain almost never fell and where all clean water sources were underground. The surrounding ocean offered no help to their water shortage, but the country however, seemed to thrive despite that. Almost every citizen credits their worship to the Sun for allowing them to live in such hazardous conditions; they believe that the Sun God allows them to survive with minimum water as thanks for their passionate worship.
☆ Or at least, that’s what they think. They weren’t gifted with the ability to live without water by some Sun God... in actuality, over the many generations of worship to the Sun- their bodies came accustomed to the sweltering heat and learned to conserve water to last for days, or even weeks on end, similar to cacti. Their “gift” was from genetics, not worship.

☆ But, this is when Ainsworth’s magic comes into play. As the years of genetics led their bodies to believe that water was limited, Ainsworth’s body took it to the next level and manifested his magic to repel all liquid from his exterior. He needs the water internally, so his magic repels it anywhere except for where he needs it most.
☆ Ainsworth’s magic has a limit though. He cannot voluntarily repel ALL water anywhere near him. Instead, his magic is similar to an airtight seal around his entire body, like an invisible skin-tight suit. When water comes into contact with the magic “suit”, it gets repelled; either by evaporating instantly if it’s a raindrop size, or by simply sliding around him if it’s a lot of water.
☆ Because of his magic, Ainsworth can actually walk on water! He enjoys running across the ocean’s surface beside his boat, jumping over waves or sliding down them. His magic allows this to happen because it recognizes that if he fell into the sea, he wouldn’t be able to swim and would suffocate without fresh oxygen.
☆ So, if the water is more than 6ft deep, his magic forces the water to stay below him, allowing him to walk across the surface. If the water is less than 6ft deep, the water is allowed to pass around his body, so he sinks.

☆ On the exterior, Ainsworth appears rather vain. His vanity is a distinct trait to anyone who first meets him, as he is easily irritated when something is wrong with his looks. But with that, he comes across as very confident, albeit borderline arrogant.
☆ It is challenging to get to know Ainsworth for who he truly is, since his magic not only reflects his country’s genetics, but also his tendency to avoid himself. For someone so vain, it’s strange how much he hates discussing anything about himself other than his looks.

☆ However, once you break through his flimsy, womanizer persona- Ainsworth is a genuinely good person. He’s endearing, charming, and extremely intelligent; creating accurate maps is not exactly easy, after all.
☆ Ainsworth is the kind of Alkarnabi to suffer in silence. He’d be willing to take a bullet for those he cares for, and pretend like everything is fine for their sake- even if it hurts him.

ᴇᴍᴏᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴡᴇᴀᴋɴᴇss:
☆ Ainsworth reflects his magic’s tendency to avoid; he doesn’t like talking about his past, his goals, or anything about himself other than his looks. This stems from the fact that his town only ever talked about his looks and gift- he has trouble opening up to others since he’s been told his whole life that only his looks and magic mattered.

☆ Some of Ainsworth’s past was explained in the Magic section, but I’ll go into further detail below.
☆ Ainsworth’s home was a desert island country named “Alucadia”. The country would be about the size of Australia, except slightly smaller. Because of the desert climate, rain almost never fell, which led the citizens to rely on underground waterways for their water. Although the ocean surrounds their island, its water was challenging to purify, and proved too difficult to try and bring inland.
☆ But, the country was still able to flourish due to changing genetics over many many generations adapting to the water shortage. The people of the country could last days, or even weeks without water, as their bodies learned to conserve every single drop.
☆ However, as mentioned in the Magic section, almost every citizen credits their worship to the Sun for allowing them to live in such dangerous conditions; they believed that the Sun God granted them life without the need for an abundance of water.

☆ This is why when Ainsworth’s magic became known, he became famous throughout his country as being “blessed” by the Sun God.
☆ He was treated as a celebrity, as if the Sun God himself had been reborn as an Alkarnabi and was now walking among them. Ainsworth adored the attention for the first few years of his life, but then he realized- no one truly cared for him as a person.
☆ Before he came out as transgender, everyone referred to him as the “Sun Princess”. When he eventually asked everyone to refer to him as a male, there were mixed reactions from those around him- all mostly negative. They told him things like: “you may have been the Sun God, but you’ve been reborn! Embrace being a new goddess! You’re just confused, that was your old life, Princess!”
☆ Ainsworth felt that no one could separate him from some stupid God, all because of his useless magic. He was being ignored as a person. And because he was treated as a reborn God, he had no one to reach out to and talk to. Everyone wanted him for either his magic, his “connection” to the Sun God, or for his fame. He couldn’t lead a normal life anymore- and he felt suffocated by the expectations put on him.

☆ So, when stories of bloodthirsty pirates sailing near Alucadia’s waters reached his ears, he took his chance. He crafted his own small sailboat, and fled the country. Then, once news of his disappearance spread, he set his plan into action.
☆ In front of a large gathering of people in Alucadia’s capital, he held up the heart of some large desert lizard he had killed, and proclaimed it to be the heart of the Sun Princess. Ainsworth introduced himself as a pirate, and as the murderer of their precious God- to which the crowd was (of course) very furious.
☆ Ainsworth somehow escaped, but earned himself a title as the pirate, “Sun-Snatcher”. He’s been on the run ever since, with the blood of his past life now on his paws.

☆ He eventually met up with Shiranui at the Suiren Shrine, and after years of sparing and bonding, the two agreed to be brothers. Ainsworth told Shiranui of his past and Shiranui instantly agreed to keep his secret and help hide him; the two might not be brothers by blood, but they are definitely brothers by fate.
