Tips
Silhouette!
Many people, mostly newbies and including me, did not really pay attention to this. Being able to tell a character by their silhouette gives an indication of how iconic they are, popular examples being patrick star or mickey mouse.
Q: What do shapes mean?
A: Circular shapes give off a bubbly/soft/friendly feeling, shapes with sharper edges give off rougher vibes. Squares are associated with strength and triangles seem ominous. Suggested Video
Q: What can i do to exaggerate my oc's silhouette?
A: Most common methods are the characters body, features (horns/ears/etc) accessories/clothing and hair.
Colors
This Section and beyond is still a work in progress.
Colors are very important to a character; these often convey emotions and can give hints to what a character is like regardless of their outward appearance. The most common examples are blue for sad and red for anger. They're very flexible and multiple colors can be used to convey specific emotions. A prime example of this is Sasuke Uchiha who had a primarily blue palette with red accents (eyes) at the start of the series, which later changed to purple and red. His younger versions palette gave off a sense of chill, cold, and anger, while later in the series purple gave off a more sinister aura while red remained making him convey revenge and bloodlust perfectly.
Value! Many people make this mistake when making a character, that is value (aka brightness and darkness of a color.) Most often the colors of a character are similar in value, causing it to look pattern-less and flat when made grayscale. In a similar situation to silhouette, making the values different can help identify a character and make it look clean.
