Maddox is the lord of the Lenoir Mansion, one that used to be powerful before Procyon took over Obsculithe. He considers himself to be superior and is determined to do anything to get his former glory back. To do so, he’s willing to be as manipulative and deceptive as he can, while also being a compulsive liar. Despite this, Maddox seems to genuinely want to impress to the point where he’s hard on himself when something doesn’t work out. It also seems that the lord has never really had a proper friendship, however he doesn’t seem to want to improve on himself, as he firmly believes he is perfect and that he doesn’t need to change at all.
Character
Superiority
Being part of the house that used to have the most amount of power in Obsculithe, Maddox grew to have a huge ego which makes him think of himself as superior to everyone else, even if the mansion’s glory was taken by Procyon.
Determination
Even if everything was given to him, Maddox continues to work hard to keep what he already has…or at least what he has left after Procyon took his glory. He will do anything to take it back, no matter how vile the method is.
Deception
To get to his goals, Maddox has to deceive everyone around him now that there aren't a lot of people who really care about him now that he isn’t as powerful as he used to be. Manipulation is the key to everything.
Lies, lots of lies
If one had to dig into Maddox’s personal life, they will notice that a lot of what he says tends to be untrue. Just how much about him isn’t real? No one will know…except maybe one person.
Harsh on himself
With him having to shoulder the house’s failure, Maddox tends to be extremely hard on himself. Every time he would commit a mistake, he would often punish himself as a way to force himself to work harder.
Stubborn
It seems that Maddox is either unaware that his behavior is why no one wants to interact with him or is aware, but pretends that there’s nothing wrong with him to cope. Who knows, really?
Story
Out of this World
There are a lot of rumors running around Obsculithe about Maddox being a demon from another world, and it doesn’t seem to be completely wrong. The story of the Lenoir family is that essentially, they were previously a noble family from the Demon Realm that was banished to Aephiria after Zacharias vanished from Angelheim. Fortunately for the family, they ended up in Obsculithe, which was the best possible region for them to live in, and so for a while, they had a mansion built for themselves after working hard on figuring out how to live in their new world. Surprisingly enough, they enjoyed living in Obsculithe much more than in the Demon Realm.
For a while, the Lenoir Mansion had a lot of power over many of the people in Obsculithe and many of its decisions were greatly supported by them until eventually, each member of the family would pass away mysteriously. And, the only family member that was left was a pretty young demon with the name of Maddox.
Brief glance at his childhood
Unfortunately for Maddox, he did not remember his childhood at the Demon Realm very well, almost as if his memories were wiped out and he only really remembered his time in Aephiria. What he did know was that his family wanted him to become the successor of the Lenoir Mansion and they wanted him to be the best leader ever. And, fully knowing how fortunate he was to be in such a powerful family, Maddox worked his hardest to be worthy of being called its successor.
Growing up, he was very harsh on himself whenever he made a mistake and no one really told him not to do that. While Maddox had managed to become worthy enough of owning the Lenoir Mansion, he wasn’t particularly too happy about his life even if he achieved something a lot of people would see as huge.
Overshadowed by Noctem
On top of that, Maddox didn’t get the power he “wanted” for long before he was pretty quickly overshadowed by a rival mansion that managed to take a lot of Obsculithe’s population as its workforce. Of course, he was very displeased with this, as he had spent years just to be deemed worthy of the Lenoir Mansion…only for the population to not bat an eye on him because a new lord was in town and he clearly seemed to know what he’s doing.
To see what was up with the whole new mansion, Maddox decided he wanted to pretend to side with said mansion to figure out what he can do to regain his power back. And so, with some of the riches his family had kept for him over the years, he tried to make a deal with the lord of the Noctem Mansion…and managed to do so very successfully. And then, for a long time, Maddox and Procyon partnered to screw over other nobles for their own gain, and it doesn’t seem that his business partner is very aware of the trap he fell into.
Taking some of Procyon's subordinates for himself
With Maddox generally spending more time at the Noctem Mansion even outside of business matters due to Procyon seeing him as an esteemed guest, he had the opportunity to chat with some of his subordinates. Some of them were hard to talk to (Helios & Heartbreaker), but others were oddly easy to talk to. There was one in particular that stood out to him: Alastair, Procyon’s masked right-hand who didn’t quite seem to be completely loyal to his lord.
And so, they had many, many deep conversations about life as a whole before they both eventually agreed that ruining Procyon’s plans would be entertaining for Alastair & beneficial for Maddox, which caused them to become partners in crime. At the same time, Maddox noticed that Heartbreaker didn’t particularly like working for Procyon and that she was only really in to gain enough power to take down her enemies.
Even if she really did not want to work for anyone else, Heartbreaker figured that working for Maddox was probably the lesser of two evils, but that she still wanted to stick with Procyon due to the power he held in general. And so, she agreed to work with Maddox as a spy as well, with the main reason that she simply hated Procyon that much.

Basic abilities
Maddox isn’t particularly exceptional, but he does have great night vision and a great sense of hearing. He also has the ability to float whenever he wants. However, he would fare horribly in sunny areas, as he has horrible day vision and would require sunglasses to navigate properly.
Dark magic
The Stygian Overlord has particular mastery in dark magic. He can particularly manipulate the shadows around people and use them against themselves, as well as forcing some types of locations to go fully dark. Maddox also seems to be able to manipulate people’s minds when in total darkness as well.
Trivia

Dislikes
- Weakness in general
- Asking for too much help
- "Peasant food"
- Noctem Mansion in general
- Maddox often pretends to drink whatever his business partners serve him. However, he really doesn't enjoy anything alcoholic and would rather drink sweet juices. His favorite happen to be cranberry juice.
- A lot of people assume he's short when looked at from afar, however he is about Procyon's height. Maddox never understands why people assume he's short.
- The Lenoir Mansion is known to be the biggest in Obsculithe, even bigger than Noctem Mansion. However, not a lot of people know about it, probably because Maddox isn't very interesting to them.
- He doesn't seem to be picky with his food either. In fact, he seems to eat whatever he can find, as long as it tastes good enough. Maddox seems to hate ginger with a passion, though.
- Maddox always says he's about 24, however he definitely has been around for a lot longer than that, and there are rumors that he may have originally come from another world.
Relationships
Maddox has a huge grudge towards Procyon for basically taking over Obsculithe when he was the one who was supposed to do it. He is a little spiteful, though, and wants to screw him over in any way he can. Thus, Maddox acts as a businessman who always gives Procyon the greatest deals while taking some of his own subordinates for himself. Procyon doesn’t seem to think much about his secret plans.
Since both of them want to see Procyon fail, either for fun or as revenge, they agreed to team up to screw over the Dark Prince as often as possible. However, Maddox doesn’t seem to know that Alastair also plans on screwing him over at one point…for fun.
Maddox found them in the middle of nowhere and found potential in their abilities and wanted to use them for his own intentions. And so, he took them in with the idea of ruining the life of his nemesis through tampering with the electronics. And, fortunately for him, Fatal doesn't seem to want to do anything about his antics...maybe?
Azrael is one of Maddox's most precious assets. While he is not often at the mansion due to his other job and due to his nature as a traveler, they always manage to strike a very solid deal for valuable information. Though, whether Azrael is truly loyal to Maddox or not is unknown.
