Chance

"You're only as small as the world will make you seem."

name: Chance Christian Garcia
age: 20 y.o.
gender: cis male (he/him)
birthday: January 4th
orientation: bisexual
relationship status: single
nickname: Chrissy (only his mom),

Chancey-Boo (Tristan)

height: 5'5

Chance is a very shy, anxious college student living at home with his mom. Most of his time is spent hanging out in his room with his cat Cassidy, being dragged around by his best friend Tristan, or by himself down at the seaside watching the tide come in and out. He's sweet, and a romantic at heart, but also very prone to panicking and crying a lot.

Personality

Chance has a hard time interacting with others as he is painfully shy. He almost always wears a hoodie in order to hide his scars, and is often seen with his hood pulled up to shadow his face as he can't handle being stared at. It isn't uncommon for him to burst into tears when spoken to, and he will often have panic attacks if touched even slightly. He's sometimes compared to a frightened mouse, always tense and jumpy.

On the inside, though, Chance is very sweet and caring. Though he has a very difficult time opening up to others, once he does he cherishes them deeply. He's even willing to push himself out of his comfort zone a bit if he thinks it will make them happy. He's also surprisingly poetic. Though he isn't the best at school, or really the smartest by any means, he has a way with words at times that isn't easily demonstrated when he can often barely speak. Sweet, calm, and kind, he is a very gentle person behind all his fright.

Trivia
  • Though he isn't sensitive about his small stature, he does get a bit annoyed when people treat him like a child because of it.
  • He has panic attacks fairly frequently but does his best to get them under control, usually by removing himself from the situation. This makes him seem really flighty though.
  • His fear of dogs doesn't have any particular origin, he's just always been scared of them. The bigger they are the more frightened he is. The sight of a dog running at him, even in a friendly way, is enough to make him curl in a ball and cry.
Design/Roleplay Notes

Design Notes
  • His hair is a little shaggy and he often wears it pulled back in a small ponytail.
  • He's easily flustered so his face tends to be a little red.
  • Scars can be drawn randomly on his arms.
  • Tristan stole and decorated his shoes. The stars on the sides are covered by red hearts and the toe of each shoe has a message and a smiley face. Right: "I l♡ve you - T" done by Tristan. Left: "U got this - M" done by Mason, who got roped into helping. These are Chance's favorite shoes.
Roleplay Notes

He is open for m|m, m|w, and m|nb. I'd prefer someone fairly close in age to him (probably 18-25ish). Open to different kinds of relationship dynamics as well. Just know if you're interested that it will have to be a slow burn as he is a tough nut to crack. c:

Some very basic rp ideas for him might be: college roommates or online friends. They're very basic ideas, though, so I'm super open to suggestions! I've used him in a post-apoctalypic rp before so that could work too. And I can easily rework him for fantasy as well. Basically, he's usable for just about any rp as long as you don't mind him being a bit useless aha.

Backstory

Childhood

Chance was born on January 4th in Eliot, Maine. His little brother Aidan was born four years later and the two grew up very close- practically inseparable. However, when Chance was ten years old their parents began to fight a lot. It got bad, and about the time he turned twelve they got a divorce. His dad took Aidan and moved to Michigan and Chance didn't seen much of them after. Though they called once in awhile, their relationships were greatly affected. Chance grew to resent his dad for slitting up the family and him and Aidan slowly drifted apart. Instead, Chance began to grow closer to his cousin Mason, who lived nearby and helped him a lot with dealing with the big life changes.

Teens

With the sudden change in his home life Chance began to seclude himself. He was angry and scared and this caused him to lash out at his mother, starting pointless fights and locking himself in his room or leaving to spend the night at Mason's. He fell into a depression, and though his mother did all she could to help, it felt like she wasn't getting anywhere. When he was fourteen, shortly after starting high school, she began to notice scars on his arms and checked him into a hospital. He spent a year in and out of the ward there without much progress. He would come home for a bit and then begin to cut again and be sent back. During this time Tristan, a senior at his school who had helped show him around, frequently came to visit. It confused Chance, since they weren't exactly close, but Tristan persisted, and overtime the two became friends, and Chance even kept clean long enough to make sure he could go to Tristan's graduation.

Finally, when he was almost sixteen, he was released for the final time. As a gift to celebrate, and to help keep his spirits up, his mother adopted him a cat from the local shelter, whom he named Cassidy. Cassidy has since become his faithful furry companion, as well as a beloved member of their little family. He steadily improved with the help of his mom, Cassidy, Tristan, and Mason. Though he remained painfully shy, and still struggled with his mental health, he pushed through and graduated high school.

Now

Chance still lives at home with his mom and attends college after a two year gap. He's doing a basic course since he isn't sure yet what he's interested in doing long term. Most of his time is spent hanging out with Cassidy and his mom or out with Tristan, who drags him places against his will. He still struggles with severe anxiety and a bit of depression, but is three years fully clean from self harm.

Relationships

Chance loves him mom more than anyone else in the world. He was always shy growing up and struggled to make friends, so it wasn't a lie when he often said his mom was his best friend. Following the splitting of the family he only became more attached to her, viewing her as his only parent. Though they had their rough patches during his early teens she fought hard for him and did everything she could to help him get better. Now they are very close and spend a lot of time together. He trusts his mom above anyone else and cares for her dearly.

Cassidy came into Chance's life when he was sixteen. After a year spent in and out of the hospital he was officially released home doing better than ever, and to celebrate and help keep him feeling positive his mom adopted Cassidy from the local shelter. He feel in love with her immediately. Sweet, hyperactive, and very vocal, Cassidy spends most of her time running between Chance's legs shouting for attention. She is his favorite creature in the whole world.

Tristan Fennec Welch best friend

Chance met Tristan in high school. Tristan was a senior while he was a freshman at the time, and he helped to show him around the school. When Chance was in the hospital for awhile dealing with mental health issues Tristan frequently came to visit him, despite them not being close at all. When he got out Tristan, already graduated by then, made it a point to visit him occasionally and encourage him. Overtime he got used to the much more outgoing boy and they slowly formed and unbreakable friendship. Now Tristan drags him along behind him everywhere, much to Chance's chagrin, and forces him out into the world. Still, he couldn't ask for a better friend.

Mason Kyle Roy cousin/best friend

Mason is Chance's cousin on his mom's side. They grew up in the same neighborhood and often played together, though they didn't get close until middle school when his parents were in the middle of their divorce. Chance often escaped to Mason's house to avoid the fighting and they became closer in that time. As they got older they continued to stick by each other. Now Mason is one of his most trusted and cherished friends.

Aidan Isaac Garcia little brother

Chance and his brother were nearly inseperable as children, but following their parents divorce the two were split apart and have rarely had contact since. As a result they have drifted quite a bit and aren't very close anymore, although Chance misses him greatly.

Mateo Garcia father

Chance resents his father for breaking the family apart and puts most of the blame for his and Aidan's drifting relationship onto him. His father doesn't go out of the way to stay in touch and so neither does he. The two talk a handful of times a year, usually just for major holidays and birthdays. Chance prefers not to talk about him at all and it's a touchy topic between him and his mom.
