"My mother, Frajda KrΓ³l, was a poor Jew living in Poland when I was born in 1939. She relocated with my father, HΓ₯kon Strom the Norwegian politician, who took her back to his family before the war broke. I assume if she were only a little homely she would have died alone in Poland a year later.
She was able to escape capture from the Norwegian government, as her suiter was filthy rich and a filthier liar. He died shortly, a crook and a thief, taken by a heart attack at only 55 years old.
My mother recieved a miniscule piece of his fortune. I grew up there in Noreg until I was drafted at 19. Eventually, it landed me at an English base. I never went back home after my mother died suddenly a few months later. She was ill but didn't want to get in the way of my future. Nobody knew, but that's how she wanted it.
I couldn't bear to ever see that place again, not with it missing my mother's warmth. Nor with the unimaginable, bitter cold I felt there after the passing of my friend, Art. My feeling of home is lost on me, but England has taken me well enough."
