• He's cursed for some unknown reason, he has had his curse mark for his entire life.
• The curse takes the form of a dark force that is contained within Salem. It takes the form of the dark cross mark on his chest which branches out, expanding into a tattoo-esque mark that threatens to reach over his entire body. He worries that one day the black marks will spread to cover him entirely, but such hasn't happened yet. Ink can seep out of the marks and create shapes (such as wings, horns or a halo, for example) and his eyes also tend to darken when it spreads too far.
• The curse spreads primarily when he's in a state of emotional weakness, so he has to closely maintain and control his emotions to make sure it isn't a threat.
• Despite his situation, Salem tries to be optimistic and he has a naturally calm disposition, partially due to his non-confrontational attitude. He has self-image issues and the curse marks certainly aren't helping. 
• He gets nervous easily and doesn't do well around strangers or new people-- he suffers from generalized anxiety and some mild depression, but it's nothing he can't handle with regular therapy and a shoulder to cry on. Overall it's fairly mild and not a huge cause for concern.
• He gets both lonely and anxious easily and often wonders if people really care about him.
• He likes meditating and drinking tea, he also likes blankets and stuffed animals as they help him calm down when he's feeling too tense to function.
• Dedicatedly wants to do something good to make his family proud and to prove, once and for all, that the curse was wrongly placed upon him and that he's actually a good person deep down.
• His favorite color is purple and he loves both sweet and salty things. He loves caffeine even though he shouldn't and he has a couple bad eating habits he'd like to get rid of.
