Cheddar isn't the most ambitious person out there, but it's certainly not out of fear. He doesn't really believe in being afraid of the unknown. He just wants to live his life in the most peaceful way possible, and so doesn't really take risks that may benefit him in the long run. He's often the first to complain when circumstances change. As a cave explorer for a mining company, his best days are the most boring ones. He's usually considered a very stable and trusting friend to have. You just have to get past how dry he can be.
