Navin Meinam

Navin is a science teacher at Hillview State High School. He mostly deals with students between grade 9 and 10, but does occasionally teach year 11 and 12 students as a substitute. His students don't respect him very much and he finds it very hard to get them to take him seriously which tends to frustrate him a lot. He's also the butt of his workmates' jokes most of the time, but he at least doesn't mind if it's his friends making the jokes. He doesn't joke himself, as he's quite stoic and serious. He's a quiet guy who doesn't do much talking, and is very irritable and quick to anger.

He's a generally pretty depressed guy but hides it behind his formal, clean appearance and demeanor. At home, however, he's a mess and usually can't find the motivation to even bother cooking himself decent meals (he'll go all out for his mentor Jay, however). When he's feeling okay, he spends most of his time reading true crime novels or putting together his classes' units and work for the week. He's also writing a novel of his own, but doesn't plan on publishing it as it's just a way for him to pass the time, despite the fact that he's actually a fantastic writer and could make a career out of it.

He had a rough highschool experience himself - with him being bullied relentlessly until his final years in which the leader of the bullies caught feelings for him which he reciprocated. It gave him trouble with his parents and sexuality, and when he was finally coming to terms with it her friend ruined it all for him. So, he left without telling anyone to blow off some steam and went and did a few university courses after he graduated. He eventually returned to the same school as a teacher, for reasons no-one really knows or understands. Why go back to the same place that gave him such a miserable experience growing up?
