Fallen was not always Fallen.
At one point, they were Guardian Apprentice.

They were to take on the title of Guardian of the LIGHT when their Master left. They were content. Life went as it was suppose to.

Till the Master Guardian didn't leave. They stayed. They began to change the way things would work.

Teaching Guardian Apprentice things that weren't right by the way their kind had always done. Guardian Apprentice began to have doubts, if a being that doesn't know feelings can have doubts.

Things only got worse and worse. It would come to physical blows from the Master Guardian. Guardian Apprentice thought this was just a moment of training. Not understanding why the Master Guardian was acting in such a fashion.

Till one day. It was the Sun that the Master Guardian struck. Something clicked in the Apprentice. A sharp jagged feeling, matching the cracks forming on the face of the Sun as the sky went dark. A jagged split formed in the face of the pale cyan being. And a horrid sound emerged. A scream.

The Apprentice never understood the way the Master Guardian looked at them. Something that made them feel small. But the other emotion, the rage they had just found, was stronger.

The Apprentice stalks forward. The sword of Guardians forming in their hands. For the deemed themselves ready for it. The Master had sinned. They were to protect the LIGHT. And the Master had failed. The Apprentice was now the Guardian.

What followed was a long battle to banish the tainted Former Guardian.  The new Guardian and the lights won the fight.

Now, they were the new Guardian.

tasked with protecting the LIGHT and keeping the dark in check. The dark wasn't something that was evil (not that they understood evil) but just something that often clashed with the LIGHT.

Things went smoothly for years. Guardian learned how to work with their fellow lights. They even crafted a mask for the Sun, so they could once again shine as strongly as they had before.

The Howling Devils got released somehow. Hound-like wind spirits that were enemies of both the LIGHT and the dark. This battle did not end so well. Guardian fought as long as they could. But the Howling Winds were to much. The sky darkened as they fell from the sky. Wings in tatters around them as they fell.

Blood drifter up to the dark sky. Like a final glowing offering.

A crash. And the waves in which they had fallen into swallowed them.

For them, all was dark. Wading at the bottom of the large body of water. They could ignore the pain in their head. The feeling that they had failed due to imperfection.

They wanted to not feel that.

So, they climbed from the water. And took note of how cold the world was.

Slowly.
They moved.

They found humans. Kind creatures, most of them, the humans started calling them Fallen. Due to not knowing what angels actually looked like and thinking they were an angel. They tried to feed them. But that didn't work. Till humans learned that they ate heat.

So they placed them in front of a fire.

The fire was weak. And Fallen knew why. Flame was weakened due to the Howling Devils. This stirred the rage once more in Fallen. And they rose up.

And spoke to the humans.

The voice that the humans heard was a tangle of sound. Several voices speaking at once. Maybe a few that weren't even speaking a language that was human. They mostly heard a slightly deeper and male sounding voice, and so decided that Fallen must be a male of whatever he was.

Fallen requested armor. His primary defense had been torn from him. The humans give him the requested armor. It is a dark metal and strange green-grey-blue under armor.

The metal is cold.
It covered most of his body. Making what was once bright and glowing, a dark thing.

A long battle followed. Fallen through it all only fought for the lights he had failed.

The battle was won.

Fallen had been broken throughout that whole battle. Pieces of armor breaking and snapping off. Making what was once a full-body (more or less) into a much lighter set.

Fallen had little contact with his kind. After the Battle to Regain the LIGHT, Sun and Moon came down to see him. Moon was a bit cold and confused. Sun wondered about the lack of wings. Fallen gave a quick and quiet explanation. And quietly banished himself from the Realm Above. He could no longer reach it anyway.

The two lights fly without him. And Fallen understood sorrow.

Tears drifted up to the sky. Like small glowing clouds of turquoise.

Fallen remained in the human realm. Wandering from place to place.

Nightmares haunting him.

Dreams of his failure and falling.
Of what he had been, both in the above and on the earth, and what he is now.
And the worst nightmare of them all, was of The Guardian before him. The puppet master who had pulled his strings for so long.

Eventually, he settles. Winning a house in a combat. Unbeknownst to him, he had fought Challenger. And won. This made many creatures of darker forces avoid him. Winning him both the home and some quiet peace.

Well, that peace only lasted as long as he was alone. Stacy showed up, and started renting one of the many extra rooms.

And Following Stacy, came Blood Scribe.  Because for some reason, she summoned a demon.

That was two rooms down.

But, Fallen felt another emotion playing in his mind.

One he knew he had felt a long time ago, but had not known what it was. It was contentedness. Happiness. He was finally somewhere where he could belong.
