Hourglass grew up in the Scorpion Den, but was fortunate enough to have parents to take care of him. His parents (Burr: mother, Loam: father) struggled to provide for themselves as well as Hourglass, but they made it work and were active members of the Outclaws; as a result of such a difficult life, Hourglass grew to be a good pickpocket and a charismatic dragon in order to help get by. It took a while for his animus abilities to be discovered, but when his parents found out, they decided it would be for his own good to keep them secret. Burr and Loam both feared that the wrong dragons could get a hold of Hourglass and use him for his ability; this included the Outclaws and the Talons of Power. Hourglass didn’t use his power much, and he took this secret very seriously.
When Hourglass was about 2 1/2, his parents had another dragonet; Sundial. The two siblings grew very close as they got older together, and were practically inseparable. Hourglass was responsible for keeping an eye on his brother most of the time, but he didn’t mind it at all. As younger members of the Outclaws, they were well taken care of, and Hourglass was certain he would spend the rest of his life with the Outclaws; he was happy with that idea. Tragedy struck Hourglass’ family when he was 5 years old; Hoax, leader of the Talons of Power, discovered Hourglass’ animus abilities through a conversation between Sundial and another dragonet, and decided he was a threat to the ToP.
He and two other Talons of Power members attacked Hourglass’ home at night, killing Loam and Burr. Sundial was killed in a final confrontation in which Hourglass was unable to free himself from the grasp of the Talons of Power soldiers in time. Hoax’s fire lit the small hut aflame as Hourglass tried to escape, burning the young dragon; in the confusion of the moment, Hourglass was able to slip out through a hole in the roof of the room and escape into the streets of the Scorpion Den. It was clear to him that he couldn’t live there after everything that had happened. Hourglass left, traveling throughout the Kingdom of Sand for a couple of years until he eventually settled in Possibility, where he hoped he could leave his past behind.
Hourglass is outwardly a very friendly and charismatic dragon; he handles social situations well and can easily adapt his personality to match that of the dragon he's talking to. He's a good liar but believes strongly in his own morals; harming others is never his intention, and as a thief only steals from those he knows won't miss it.

He is an animus. Hourglass isn't exactly sure on his skill with using his powers, considering he hardly ever uses them. He IS sure, however, that he is good at NOT using them. Using his powers brings back bad memories, and he wants to forget that side of him.
He used to be an Outclaw, but that was years ago. Now he just wants to leave his past behind.

The leader of the Outclaws' rival group. He killed Hourglass's family and drove him out of the Outclaws. Even after all these years, Hoax is still waiting for Hourglass, like a cat outside a mice nest.
