He was Orval’s professional partner and best friend. Sycamore was also a nonfiction writer who researched the undead.
Though Orval believed he was just being caring in his own way, Sycamore seemed strangely possessive of him. Other hunters started complaining about him getting increasingly aggressive. In the further-past, he was known for being a friendly big brother type and nice to work with; he still maintained a responsible attitude. He acted almost as if he was trying to hold onto “something”. He became overly concerned with doing what he thought was “correct” even if it didn't align with morals.

Story
After being brutally attacked by a monster, Sycamore was reported missing, then came back just as suddenly. He became an undead, but no one ever assumed him to be anything other than a living human -- except Orval. Even examiners could only tell that something was off with him and nothing else. His condition deteriorated until eventually he got caught slaughtering a group of people during work. Orval was forced to kill him.
Past
Sycamore and Orval met in their 20s when the latter man was saved from a "zombie" attack. Neither of the men had any remaining family and they hit it off right away. Orval was seen as a liability to his friend by others, but Sycamore would always quickly defend him. He was just as quick to lecture him for errors during jobs, though.
