FAMILY AND BIO
- Eywapänu's parents have been mated for many years. They are both beloved by all within the clan, particularly for their kindness and contributions to the clan. Her mother is a beloved cook, and her father is a revered musician (specializing in drumming) and singer (beloved for his interpretation of tulkun songs). She has a twin sister who has always been close to her. Often, they would all ride their ilu together, appearing like a wild pod out in the ocean. Within the clan, they are considered a very close family.
- Eywapänu grew to love rearing ilu for the clan. She also loves building wind chimes. She enjoys hunting and helping her mother grill the catch for the family. A lot happened emotionally for the family when the Sky People returned and attacked. Just before they invaded, Eywapänu's sister had her heart broken by a warrior within the Metkayina clan, causing tension. Later, Eywapänu's mother lost her tulkun to the merciless hunting of the Sky People as they began encroaching on Awa'atlu while trying to provoke war. Since then, Eywapänu became more reserved and quiet - much different than she was before the invasion. Family and friends alike are concerned as she often goes on walks alone, has seemed distant, and much less talkative since the events. It has been over a year since then, and she has become more social - but nothing much is known about what caused her quiet episode.
HOME
- Eywa’pänu’s home hangs over the water near Awa’atlu’s perimeter. She has many hanging trinkets around her home that gently ring in the sea breeze. There is a small hearth, often lit, in the center of the living space. Flickering orange embers crackle quietly below a cooking vessel. The vessel is a shell - large, concave, and bone-colored, hanging over the fire. There is simmering liquid within it that fills the marui with a warm, savory scent. Ocean water ebbs and flows beneath the woven floor. Her most loyal ilu can often be found circling in the same waters, ready to be called at a moment’s notice. Eywa’pänu’s suspended marui is woven into massive, winding tree roots. A Metkayina woven-path wraps around her marui, allowing ample access to a thin white-sand beach where Pandoran flora lines little trails winding deeper inland.
CLAN
The Metkayina are an oceanic Na'vi clan located on Pandora's reefs in the Eastern Sea. Of the many reef clans, the Metkayina are the largest. The clan is led by Tonowari and Ronal who live in the clan's main village, Awa'atlu. This clan makes use of their extensive and diverse habitat in many ways and has a close relationship with water; just as clans such as the Omatikaya and Olangi ride direhorses to trek the landmasses of Pandora, the Metkayina use ilus as their companion of choice for gliding across the Pandoran oceans.
