Rebecca Byrne
Bitter • Moody • Animal Lover
"Everything was fine before they came along."
Rebecca is Aisling’s older sister, but the two of them don’t get along well at all. Their hostility towards each other goes beyond normal sibling bickering. Something horrible happened in their family when they were younger, and it’s driven an irreparable wedge between the siblings. Their dad did his best to mediate, but he never managed to fix the problem, leaving it to fester over the years. With him drowning himself in his work, Rebecca had little choice but to take care of her younger sibling almost single-handedly as the two grew up, preventing her from having much of a social life. The events of her life have left her bitter and resentful, especially of Ais. The two things that keep her going are her sense of obligation towards taking care of her family and her job at the local pet hotel.
Notes
- Her birthday is August 14th, 1994, making her a Leo.
- Like Aisling, her first language is Irish.
- She wants a dog of her own, but is worried her home isn’t stable enough for a pet. The dogs at work are her babies, and she adores them.
- She has a boyfriend who she often brings over, much to Aisling’s disgust since the two of them share a room.
- Her middle name is Erin.

PERSONALITY
At work, Rebecca is very upbeat and friendly. She LOVES her job, and it shows in how she treats her coworkers and customers. She’s often seen talking extensively to the dogs in weird voices, and almost always has a smile on her face. This isn’t the norm for her, though. At home, Rebecca is miserable. Her sense of obligation towards the preservation and care of the little family she has left means she still lives with her father and sibling, despite her resentment of them. She complains about anything and everything, and takes a lot of her misery out on Aisling. She’s still reeling from the tragedy that befell the Byrne family when she was 13, and the combination of being forced to grow up very fast because of it and the complete lack of opportunities to seek help or process it in a healthy way has left her deeply embittered by how poorly her life has gone.
“They’re such a little shit. I can’t believe they have the audacity to get mad at me for things like inviting my boyfriend over, or keeping my nail polish collection in our room, when I’m the one who’s kept them ALIVE up until now. So ungrateful. I can’t wait for them to move out, which I’m sure they will, since they don’t seem to give a shit about me or dad at all.”
“I love him. Really, I do. He’s...a good person. But he's not a very good dad. I just…I still don’t understand why he made us move out here. Away from mom. It feels like he just wanted to sweep what happened under the rug. Not to mention how he kinda stopped actually raising us after everything. I know he’s busy with his job, but I always got the feeling he makes himself busy on purpose so he won’t have to deal with us.”
"Don't. Don't fucking ask about her."
“Ugh, I hate that thing! Aisling keeps its tank in the living room, so every fucking time it poops it stinks up the whole house. Ais seems to adore it, though. Of course they do.”
