Standoffish—Marie can come off as cold, and she does not like to speak much to people other than Victor.

Overly cautious—She will never, ever rush into a situation that has only half of the variables accounted for. Even if her own or a friend’s safety is on the line, she will assess every possible cost and benefit before taking any sort of action.

Likes: 

Darker aesthetics—they relax her for some reason, likely the muted colors.

Hand-made things—it feels so personal. All birthday/thank-you/holiday cards Marie sends were hand-decorated by her, and the gifts that come with them were hand-made as well.

Dislikes: 

The color magenta—it is never subtle. It jumps out and shouts that the person who used it thinks they are more worthy of attention than anyone else.

Cooking—Marie never learned to cook and never wants to. Risking burned hands and knife cuts, dealing with finicky ingredients…all for a final product designed to be consumed? It feels like a waste of time.

Backstory: Marie-Ange Bai was born into money: both sides of her family were equally wealthy. The young Marie never seemed to enjoy the idea of being spoiled, rarely going shopping for anything but fabrics and thread, keeping no pets with hand-made stuffed animals in their stead. Her relatives accepted her eccentricities: after all, they had all the time and money in the world for her fancy dresses and elaborately-posed tableaux of plush creatures.

Around the time she hit the infamously-cliquish middle school years, she began to notice the other children around her. None of them wore thick makeup under their eyes or carried their favorite stuffed cat everywhere they went. It was an isolating feeling, especially since so many of them had made friends through common interests she did not share.

She was lonely now. Even her family started up a new branch of their businesses and became too hurried for her to want to worry them. Marie only found one connection: to a strange creature that no one else could see, one that promised her a wish.

Marie wished to have a confidant, but couldn’t forsake her oldest friend.
