Dakotaraptors have thick feathery coats to resist the cool winds and occasional snowfall in the higher altitudes where they live. Their packs are well hidden and non-confrontational unless an outsider strays too close to their territory. Dakotaraptors seek honesty and have faith in longstanding traditions which they use to determine the roles of each pack member. Diverging from these rules is considered blasphemy.

And then there's Dredger. Dakotaraptors live up in the cooler ridge of this area, more secretive than other species. They really care about tradition. Dredger, being the runt of his siblings, was incapable of completing a rite of passage that young take to ensure only the biggest and strongest remain in the pack, and so he was driven out. Unlike most Dakotaraptors, however, Dredger was crafty. He survived a bout of cold months by scavenging for protein-rich vegetation and preserving what morsels of prey he could find in expertly dug holes. Unfortunately, directly after came a severe prey shortage that left unprepared raptors starving. When I found Dredger even his thick coat of feathers could not hide his boney frame. A pack raptor would have eaten him on the spot. Fortunately, Dredger is incredibly beautiful (and, to more importantly, me and Raker needed a third raptor to successfully carry out our hunting strategies).
