“What’s happening to me? Mama, where are you?”

It was dark, with sparks of color, like fireworks in the night sky. Small legs stumbled as they knocked into what felt like a chair. She hit the ground, tears rolling down her face.

“Mama, I can’t see!”

Footsteps. Then a warm hand.

“Oh my sweet girl… It will be okay.”

Personality


  • Gentle: Silke is a gentle soul, an old soul. She keeps her secrets (and those of others) close to her chest and rarely will speak a bad word about anyone.
  • Calm: Silke is in general a calm mare, and it takes a lot for her to anger. But if she does, beware.
  • Silk and Steel: While Silke is delicate, she has a spine of steel when the situation calls for it.

History


Silke was born to a loving family of non-mages. At the age of five she began to get headaches, accompanied by streaks of color going across her vision. The young girl began to spend more days in bed than out of, and her parents feared for her but were unable to afford a healer.

On the morning of her sixth birthday she woke up completely blind. With it came her magic.

Her parents were older and afraid for her, and did not have the resources to care for a blind mage. So they made the tough decision to send her to the Order.

Silke was raised among the order, learning how to use her magic. She began to grow in power and discipline, and by the age of thirteen was able to discern the auras of others. By seventeen she was able to tell the unique signatures of others, and identify them by their aura.

Her other senses heightened with the loss of her traditional sight, and she found a knack for identifying the world around her by smell and hearing as well. She became quite adept at identifying those she had close contact with, but the outside world was still a terrifying place.

At the age of twenty-two, something happened. Silke refuses to talk about it, but she breaks away from the order and sets off into the world.

Silke's magic has replaced her sight. Instead of seeing with her eyes, her magic has the ability to make out the unique signatures and auras of other living beings.

Shrine Quest: Silke begins to be able to see the aura/lifeforce of flora as her Power grows. However, it is making it harder for her to discern where other living beings are in densely grown areas (corruption).

As her power grows, she will be able to 'see' further and identify other organic living things (ie, plants).

As her discipline grows, she will be able to better read the auras and identify emotions in others.

  • Magic Detection Amulet. 02/07/2023. This peculiar device grants a mage the ability to sense traces of magic in an area or on an item. Using this, a mage can see if magic was recently used or if an item has been imbued, what kind of magic was used, and sometimes even who cast it, if the amulet holder is familiar with the magic of the caster.
  • Handmaid Idol. 02/07/2023. Gives any one character mastery of their telekinesis that allows them to carry heavy objects like weapons.
  • Minor Healing Scroll. 02/07/2023. Using this spell, a mage can close small cuts and scrapes, vanish bruises, or stop bleeding. This healing is rudimentary and without finesse, useful mostly as first aid; it can save a life in a pinch, but usually leaves scars or else merely starts a major injury on a path towards natural healing.
  • Extended Telekinesis Scroll. 02/07/2023. Using this technique, a mage can hold very heavy items, wield multiple weapons at once, manipulate complex objects midair, and improve the range of their telekinesis by twice the length of their body.
  • Elemental Blast Scroll. 02/07/2023. This ancient text instructs a mage in harnessing a single element of their choice, allowing them to lob a fireball, lightning bolt, or other elemental magical attack. This does not give a mage the ability to hold or manipulate the element, only to shoot a small "blast" at will.
  • Familiar Scroll. 02/07/2023. This illuminated parchment gives the reader instructions on summoning one Familiar. Silke's familiar is a small black cat with horns.
