"How does a heart love If no one has noticed its presence. And where does it go?"

About

High Witch of Rosebrook

Abby is a kind, sweet-hearted, witch in training. She grew up in Europe before Witch Trials, which caused her family to flee to North America. Unfortanily for her, her parents were taken from her at a young age. So she grew up with a neighbor of hers, who let her run wild for the most part.

She's the type of person who'd be seen as a goody-two-shoes by everyone who knows her and is basically the type that grandmothers would love their sons/daughters to end up with. Has a love of learning. Can be very studious, and remembers and recalls information really easily.

Easy to talk to, she never judges and always tries to help as much as she's able. A great multi-tasker; uses her levitation spells to do multiple things at once. Is attentive because of that, and never misses small things.

Backstory

Abigail used to live in northern Europe for most of her childhood. She and her family lived together in a quaint cottage deep in the forest, protected by magic barriers. They lived there until their peace was disturbed by nearby human conflict. Witches and non-witches alike were being taken from their homes and being brutally murdered.

Abigail never saw the murders, but would stay up all night watching the smoke drift up into the sky, blocking out the stars. Abigail never went into the local village since her parents forbid her from doing so, instead, she spent her time exploring the forest, doing small spells and tricks for the other children who wandered into the forest. She also enjoyed buying small wares from traveling merchants using money that she received from her parents by doing chores.

One night, it seemed like the fires were getting closer, moving slowly, and in a panic, Abigail collected all her small trinkets and ran to tell her parents. They had already seen the fire and were also picking up essentials.

Suddenly, pained screams, babies, and children crying, and dog growling filled the night. While Abby's parents tried to be as secluded as possible, they had a few neighbors, all of which were also witches and warlocks. They had been taken unaware, and their houses were in the process of burning while dogs tore them limb from limb. The smell of ash and coppery blood was heavy in the air.

Abigail's father picked her up hastily and placed her on his shoulders. "Close your eyes and keep them shut tight," he warned his daughter. But her shut eyes couldn't block out the smells and the agonized screams that were quickly going silent. She could hear the squishing noise her father's lumber workboats made in the wet ground, from either blood or the rain that now began to fall.

To shield their child from witnessing the tragedy of the fallout, Abigail's family migrated to North America. The boat ride was long and boring to Abby, who grew tired of watching the surrounding landscapes. She reached over the side of the boat to lap the water and a goldfish trout caught her eye.

She created a bubble around the fish and lifted it out of the water. Her mother noticed what she was doing before the other passengers on the boat (mainly humans) could see what the child was doing. They still got a few squinted glares, the small family had an odd air around them that unsettled those around them.

The family was able to buy a small house in the outskirt of a town in Northern Ontario. While they hid their magic well enough, the rest of the town could tell something was off about them. They were not welcomed there, but Abigail never found out why.

One day, there was a lot of commotion outside. Abigail's parents embraced her, and her mother led her to the cupboard under the stairs and told her to stay silent and wait until Mr.Marleigh came to pick her up. Mr. Marleigh was a friend of the Adleys and was the only one who knew they were witches. After Abigail's mother left, there was shouting and loud bangs before it went quiet.

An hour later, the door was unlocked. Mr. Marleigh stooped down and took Abigail by the hand to lead her to his car. They drove all the way out to the country.

Up until she was 16, Mr. Marleigh took care of her and treated Abigail like she was his own. Eventually, he moved out to take care of his own parents, leaving Abigail by herself, while still coming by to check on her and bring her groceries and old spellbooks.

Since Abigail was left alone to her devices, she liked to take a break from her witching practicing to go for a walk down to the local cemetery. The cemetery was one of the things separating her country house and the local town. Beyond that were a ditch and a medium-sized hill.

Abigail found when she was 15 that she could talk to and see ghosts, and since then she would go keep the ghosts company. It was on one of these outings that she heard a low moan coming from the ditch. She went over to investigate and found a half-aware zombie. Of course, she took the zombie- Quinn, or Q for short- back to her home to take care of her.

Relationships

Q

room mates

The two share a very close, sisterly bond. Abby is really the only one that Quin has ever open up to, outside of her family.

Abigail met Q one fateful day in the graveyard. Q had just come back to life after death and was pretty out of it.

Abby took her back to her home. It took a bit of time on Q's end to fully trust Abby since Q was jaded to other's true affections. She didn't know what Abby's true intentions were or what she was getting out of it. But since Abby was sincere, the other girl gradually let her guard down and relaxed.

  • Abby can become so focused on her spells that she forgets to eat. Quin has to remind her to eat, and like a cat, will attempt to bring her food from her nightly hunts.
  • For whatever reason, Abby draws cats to her like a magnet. Even the unfriendliest of cats will flock to her and flop down in front of her. It's fine, but the extra lose fur is annoying to Q, who will have the fur stuck to her exposed muscle.

Ashlin

ex-neighbor

Ashlin and Abigail grew up close together before Abigail's family fled. Abigail never really talked to the older girl, but would occasionally buy her dolls and books on demonology.
