Cuckoosight

A longfurred black smoke tom with low white. Pale silver-green eyes.

A friendly face inside GorgeClan's tunnels, Cuckoosight is always looking to help his clanmates in one way or another. He has a lot to live up to, after all. As a point of spiritual guidance - or at least, as much as he tries to be - Cuckoosight wants nothing but the best for GorgeClan. It's his home, his family, his friends. When all is said and done, the young tom just wants to make them proud.

That's why he chose - no, that's why he was chosen to walk this path. Cuckoosight was blessed by StarClan, blessed with visions and and chosen to help GorgeClan through the hardships it will endure. The Great Snow might be over, but the challenges are far from over. If someone isn't there for GorgeClan, then who will be? Their spirits were broken after so much loss, and now he can help guide them to the star's light again. Specially with the help of his mentor, Moonscrier.

Cuckoosigt often stays in camp for the most part, around the tunnels and healer's den or Moonscrier's chamber, talking of StarClan. In his spare time though, he'll probably be laying around his mother for a good nap.

Personality

When he’s in public, Cuckoosight feels he has to act all proper, and he has to be mysterious and serious like his former mentor is. Still, he can’t help but be kind and light-hearted, often “breaking-character” sooner rather than later if he’s not actively focused on it. Part of him wants to be just like any other healer: talk to everyone, spend time in the open cavern, and go out of camp and explore the territory. The other part though, it feels like it’s not what Moonscrier wants of him. So he tries his best to look like he’s always walking with a purpose, like he knows what he’s doing.

Things are a little different when he’s with his family and friends, he’s more charismatic and chattery, often trying to stay away from the topic of his healer duties to forget the crushing pressure of it all. Cuckoosight loves to spend time with his mother, going to her to unwind and maybe care for her a little as well.

As for the visions, well... Cuckoosight is certain of them. Yes. He was chosen for a reason, right? Named for it, even. Questioning Cuckoo about it might get him a little defensive, but the tom has learned to talk his way through it. Debates and discussions became a habit he inherited from Moonscrier. But they're all real. Of course they are. They... They have to be.

The truth is, they're not. Cuckoosight knows it, he makes them up every time. But he has to- what else is there for him to do?

Trivia

  • Cuckoosight is a character I had the honor of adopting in Cliffside!
  • He has the prefix "Cuckoo" because of the cuckoo bird's symbolism and Cuckoosight's prompt as a character!
  • TJ was the one to say "worms" as a critter when I asked for a bug in the server without context. That's why he doesn't like worms. Blame TJ. (/j)
  • Cuckoosight's voice claim is Thanatos from Hades.
  • He lives in my head rent free 24/7

History

- Origin

Born to Wrenwolf and sired by Specklebloom of GorgeClan, Cuckookit was always loved in his youth. Granted, his mother was never really close to Specklebloom and as a monarch, it was only a small gesture as her duty to her clan as she had no mate. Nevertheless, Wrenwolf loved her son unconditionally. Cuckoo was never around his sire much, but he also never really thought about it. He has his Ma, and his uncle Sootshiver! What else could he ask for?

Kithood was a delight, having the company of Robinkit and Smokekit as his friends, playing in the tunnels, free of worry and stress. He grew listening to tales of StarClan, to their songs, to their doings, and like Wrenwolf, the little kit believe they were, well, pretty cool! Cuckookit couldn't wait to become a study, fascinated by the prospects of everything a healer could do. But he wasn't against being a warrior, honestly! It's just that, healers could do so much more! And his Ma was a healer before, so it must be great!

Then, the warmth of greenleaf gave way to the cold of leaf-fall. It was the first time Cuckoopaw had experienced it, and boy was it cold! But... the adults seemed bothered by it. Wrenwolf said it'd be cold, and yet the Clan looked worried and restless. It wasn't normal. No, it definetly wasn't. Cuckoopaw felt... He was scared. Scared for what it would mean to his family, to GorgeClan. He had to do something. Thre had to be a way out of this.

- A Vision Made of Shadows

That's when Cuckoopaw had the idea. Cats were scared, they were- they were sending their prayers to StarClan, asking fr things to pass, to get better. That was it, wasn't it? StarClan would help them. But Cuckoopaw wanted to help too! What if... What if he had been chosen? Yeah, chosen by StarClan, and that way he could help GorgeClan through this mess?

So the tom came foward with his plan. Cuckoopaw remembered one of the healers, Vespermoon, and how they knew so much about StarClan, how they would probably be the cat to go for this. And it worked. The first "vision" Cuckoopaw had wasn't very clear- not when he didn't really know what to come up with. He was just desperate to help, even if it meant giving cats hope in something. But Vespermoon took him in, listened as he stumbled his way through what the vision had been. How they were "fleeting" and came in "burts". It made sense, right? StarClan works in mysterious ways. Or. Something.

Cuckoopaw became Cuckoosight, his name now a symbol of his connection to the stars made real. But it's not real. And he knows that. Every vision, every sign- he made them all up. Learning divination of dreams, as he said it was the way he received his visions, and stars, Cuckoosight simply learned to lie better. All he knows is that he can't let his Clan know. He did it for them. That's what matters. That's... that's what's important.

- Present

Now, with the Great Snow gone, Cuckoosight is worried about his situation. The tom doesn't know where to go or what to do- he has to keep up this sotry, he has to. His family is proud of him, his former mentor, now named Moonscrier, still expects so much from him. Cuckoosight can't let them down, he just can't. He loves these cats. So he'll play his part, and he'll make sure they're proud of him.

Fear still plagues him. He'll lie, there's no question in that. But- But what if they find out? Will they hate him for it? Will they understand? Cuckoosight is terrified of the very thought. But it won't happen, there is no reason for it to. He's done fine so far, right? There's no reason for things to change now. Yeah. Everything will be fine.

Relationships

Cuckoosight's mother. He loves her with his whole heart and soul, and he would never ask for a better cat to have in his family. She might be a bit of a grump to others, but to him, she's the loving mother he needs.

Cuckoosight's former mentor. Well, the tom still sees them as a mentor, if he's being honest. They guided them through it all, teaching them all about StarClan and more. Cuckoo wants to make them proud, more than anything.

Cuckoosight's sibling. (an adopt, relationship dynamic yet to be decided, but Cuckoo likes them)

Cuckoosight's uncle. He loves him dearly, and is always happy to hang around them! No one has better jokes and games than uncle Soot, and Cuckoosight would spend the entire day with them if he could.

Cuckoosight's sire. They're his father, but, not really? The two of them were never really close, and his mother never really introduced Specklebloom as a fatherly figure to Cuckoo in his youth, so that was never something he felt towards them. It's a bit weird. They're a good healer, though.
