The Somber Spark

The flying vessel was created in Kaine's earlier years, the idea spun up on a densely stained table in a tavern surrounded by the few he trusted.

Kaine, Winston, Theo, and Yuna decided to take flight with the idea and began working on transforming their old pirate vessel, the Rosy Mermaid, into a ship capable of taking to the skies. With Kaine and Winston taking care of the mechanics of the ship and Theo and Yuna gathering the materials, the ship was modified in a year and the crew celebrated the job with a beer and a new name for the vessel; The Somber Spark.

The crew spent a number of years working as pirates of the clouds and the sky, until a small bundle was left upon the deck one summer night while docked outside a paltry town. Kaine knew immediately what it was and took the bundle, not informing the crew of what it was. It wasn't till long the crew found out it was a little wolf cub that Kaine named Auriel. Kaine never told them who the mother of Auriel was, but they only assumed it was a tavern wrench that he had a fling with a bit ago.

During the first few years, the crew attempted to train Auriel as a pirate, but he revolted mostly against them and stayed locked in his room, surrounded by piles of books and tomes that once lined the shelves in the captain's cabin.

As the years grew on, he became isolated from her father and the crew, until an accident in the that left her as the captain of the ship. While exploring, Athella was attacked by a pack of hyenas and Kaine came to save her, but didn't pull through after the fight. The crew was devastated at the loss of Kaine which Theo and Yuna blamed Athella for as she wanted nothing to do with pirating; only wanting to explore the world. The two walked away from the ship, leaving behind Winston and Athella. Winston swore to Kaine before his passing to watch over Athella and stayed as the ships butler to watch over her. With the Somber Spark under Athella's command, the pirate life ended and a life of discovery began.
