Ferrona

Ferrona (フェローナ Ferōna) is the capital city of Aerugo. It is a sprawling port city located a short ways upriver from the open ocean. Ferrona is the site of many festivals, as well institutions of education and culture showcasing the beauty of Aerugo. However, it is also the hub for much of the traffic of its criminal underworld. Many of the mafia families have enough power to influence those in governmental offices, so it is a sign of status among their circles to own a home in Ferrona, the bigger the better.

Trivia

  • Ferrona's name comes from the Medieval Latin word ferrum which means "iron" and which has a combining form of ferro-. The chosen format rhymes with Verona, Italy, which is the setting of Romeo and Juliet.

Jungsbrück

Jungsbrück (ヤングスブラック Yangusuburukku) is the capital city of Creta. It is a planned city whose primary purpose is to serve as the seat of the federal government. The layout is similar to that of a wheel, with the capitol buildings at the center and designated areas for each of the tribes in the federation radiating straight outward from the center like spokes. The majority of the population is those whose occupations are tied to the federal government, such as the representatives, the military, and the national newspapers, since the general populace of Creta prefers to live on the broader lands elsewhere across the nation which are governed by their own people group rather than directly by the federal authorities.

Trivia

  • Jungsbrück's name comes from the surname of the Swiss psychologist Jung, who had an interest in alchemy due to the psychological implications of the pursuit of transubstantiation.

Koblen

Koblen (コブレン Koburen) is a country desert town in eastern Amestris adjacent to the border with Ishval. One of its largest buildings is the general store. During the war against Ishval, many people moved away to distance themselves from the bloodshed.

Trivia

  • Koblen's name is similar to the name of a city in Germany called Koblenz.

Shoudu

Shoudu (シャウドゥー Shaudū) is the capital city of Xing. It sits at the intersection of two major rivers and has the most urban atmosphere in the country. In addition to being the home of the emperor and the imperial court, it is also the center of trade and knowledge. It boasts the largest libraries in the nation, and many scholars reside there to discuss and further the advancement of medicine and alkahestry. Due to factions with differing policies, Shoudu is a patchwork of welcoming the new and retaining the old. Some sectors of the city such as the markets are open to foreigners, but many governmental elders proponent keeping access to the sectors near the imperial court restricted.

Trivia

  • Shoudu's name comes from the Mandarin word 首都 which means "capital". About as straightforward a choice in name as Central City is.

Yermetichny

Yermetichny (ユルメテイーチュニ Yurumetīchuni) is the capital city of Drachma. After the nation's multiple rounds of governmental upheaval in recent decades, the current ruling body is in favor of showing strength by increasing manufacturing and industry, so there are many factories and the like spreading out from the previous edges of the capital city into the surrounding countryside. There are also many military installations in the area, believing that the proximity to the seat of government will boost morale.

Trivia

  • Yermetichny's name comes from the Russian word герметичный which means "hermetic", which in turn has a secondary meaning of "relating to an ancient occult tradition encompassing alchemy, astrology, and theosophy".
