#oddrunner
Oddrunner was the previous deputy of DuneClan before Hayfrost.
Nowadays, he's more than content to live a lonesome life with his friend, Beetletail. He's often found wandering through clan territories, stealing prey whenever possible. Due to DuneClan's absence in diplomatic clan matters, he's been able to dismiss his trespassing as passing through for a few moons.
Oddrunner's sharp tongue is something that got him into plenty of trouble as a clan cat. He isn't entirely malicous, and knows when he's crossed a line.
He's more than willing to put his life on the line for his friends, but only if he absolutely has to. He doesn't like taking risks, and sticks with what he knows to be true as opposed to trying something new. He's very set in his ways, and overall not very social, but he's a good listener that has some decent advice if you squint.
salamanders, eating, cactus juice, fireflies, routine, nighttime, his family, being liked.
archstar, being accused, big changes, cobwebs, herbs in general, harsh sunlight, pointless work, solitude.
- very sleek bottom half !!! paws are small, but he has a big mane on the back of his neck at curls into the fringe above his eyes
- no tail !!! just fluffy nub
- fur gets damp and matted super easily, so oddrunner avoids water/rain like the plague
- after he's become so used to traveling at night, oddrunner's very sensitive to sunlight
- skinny !!! he runs a lot and doesn't eat much to make up for it, so his midsection is really thin
Oddkit was born into DuneClan at the height of its development. This was just after the train had been built, and he was born alongside Tallkit and Haykit. The three played in the sandy dunes, often recreating stories the elders told them.
When they became apprentices, Oddpaw met Archpaw. Archpaw always made a point to prove that he was ten times better in everything Oddpaw did, which began to infuriate the young tom.
Due to his parents having their own duties and his siblings being caught up in training, he seldom had anyone to turn to once Archpaw managed to get a few cats to turn on Oddpaw. He ran away a lot, sitting by the shallow river that ran through their territory. There, he met Beetlepaw; a PerchClan cat. Oddpaw didn't feel the need to chase him off, since they were on their respective sides of the border. After a wary staredown, Beetlepaw struck up a conversation. The two chatted, and promised they'd see each other again.
Unfortunatley, the bullying back home continued. Oddpaw vented his frustrations to Beetlepaw at their weekly talks, saying he wished people would pay attention to him for -once.- The next day, it was time for an assessment of the apprentice's skills. Haypaw got both of her siblings pumped up, and by the time it was their turn, Oddpaw bolted. He finished everything in record time, with no sight of Archpaw, either.
It was once he finished, did Oddpaw figure out a 6-foot ditch had been dug. Archpaw fell inside. The small tom managed to get away without any major harm, but he would have to sit out for a while in his training. Oddpaw and his siblings finally got the recognition they've been craving for all this time, much to a watching Beetlepaw's joy.
When it was time for Oddpaw's warrior test, Archpaw was still being held back because he failed his last one. Oddpaw was glowing with pride, and was confident he could do this. He even managed to shoot back a snarky comment of his own to his old bully, before leaving.
During his hunting trip, Oddpaw found a wandering rabbit. He lowered himself to the ground, and leaped without a second thought. Before he could stop himself, the bird flew into the air, setting off a trap he narrowly kept his paw from stepping in. Pain seared through his body as the metal teeth of a twoleg trap dug into his tail. His wails carried throughout the dunes, bringing the attention of his sisters. The medicine cats took him to the den and treated Oddpaw the best he could, but ultimately, his tail couldn't be salvaged.
A moon later, his fellow apprentices had gotten their warrior names. Hayfrost, Tallmouse, and Oddrunner. Oddrunner couldn't grasp why Archfang stared at him with a look of guilt, no matter how hard he wracked his brain.
Oddrunner's warriorhood was uneventful. Things got significantly worse when Archfang became deputy, and eventually leader. He wasn't sure if Archstar made him deputy just to mock Oddrunner, but he couldn't bring himself to care anymore. His visits with Beetlepaw- now Beetletail- continued, though. The two continued being friends, often bringing prey from the train's share when one couldn't get enough.
One day, though, Beetletail was being sent out to find the train after it went missing. Oddrunner voiced his concerns, but Beetletail brushed them off, saying he's handled worse. With a doubtful nod, Oddrunner watched his friend dissapear into the shadows. He waited for a while, but eventually, Beetletail came back. He was wounded and torn apart, saying PerchClan wouldn't let him back in. Oddrunner let the wounded tom take refuge in a lone burrow, but it was found by a patrol two moons later. Oddrunner was exiled for housing an enemy warrior, and the two barely managed to escape with their lives.
Guilt wracked his brain at the horrified looks on Tallmouse and Hayfrost's faces. He and Beetletail left DuneClan in favor of going on their own mini adventures, and soon enough, Oddrunner figured out it was a life he was far more suited for. Even so, his gut says that something might be wrong with his lifelong friend.
