Born in Mossdeep City, Hoenn, Aphel grew up with a keen interest in machines and technology and outer space, forgoing any connection he could make with his fellow peers in favour of studying the stars and developing new tech. He has a combination of autism and savant syndrome (specifically with his skill in robotics, coding, and tech) and skipped most of his primary schooling growing up, attending university classes at as young as 12 years old.

However, because of his perceived intelligence, it was assumed he could work independently, meaning he was not given much structure in his life, and was expected to flourish on his own, meaning he grew up quite distant from others in his life.

He was cut off from many necessary formative experiences in early childhood, such as interaction with his peers, and has been left with severe antisocial behaviour that (in combination with his autism) makes him come across as easily irritated, bored, and blunt. He doesn't care what people think of him, unless it is a direct threat to his scientific projects- he can get rather defensive of his work. As a friend, he's not exactly the most visible affectionate, but he can be incredibly loyal and will defend you above all else.
