elijah - about + history
Elijah is very mistrusting. He's rude and is often sarcastic, showing apathy towards things and not participating. He exaggerates a lot of his misfortunes, leading him to believe they're as bad as he's made up in his head. He's fiercely loyal to the very few he genuinely cares about and will fight for them endlessly.
He's very tall with long claws. Stealthy, and not very easy to creep up on. Good night vision.
History
Hurricane died in childbirth. Her single kit, Elijah, who was unnamed at the time, was alone, as he was the result of a fling. He would die if he didn't get help soon. But Cotton and her two kittens, Circuit and Nimbus. She couldn't let this kitten die, so she took him and gave him milk. She was kind to him and he became very close to Cotton's biological kits, and he was a part of their family. But Cotton got sick. She could barely move after a week, let alone hunt for her kits or give them milk. Her brother Snow came to visit her, lacking the knowledge she was sick. She died in her sleep before he got there. Eli, Circuit and Nimbus were scared and didn't know what to do - their mother was dead. When her brother came he was horrified. He took her kittens to a colony who were very unfriendly to outsiders - the only reason they were accepted is because they were kittens..
They were adopted in to a family who didn't want them. Firefly, his new adoptive mother, had three biological children - Bell, Spice, and Honeycrisp. She took her bitterness over Cinnamon's (her mate) death out on Eli and his siblings. She only did what she had to to keep them alive, and healthy enough. She encouraged her children to bully them and put them down. They only did it because they were scared of her and didn't want to be hurt. They tried to make friends and explain when Firefly wasn't watching but Elijah's resentment of them was too much, and he wouldn't let them go near his more willing siblings at all; they were the only ones he cared about. He grew up angry, only caring about Circuit and Nimbus (despite having a few 'friends' in the group) who were both extremely worried for him - they loved him but he wasn't okay.
One day, he was sent out to hunt for food with Bell (as adults). He went to look in a bush will she looked in the foliage that lined the gorge. The part she stood on was unstable and it broke. She fell, calling for help as she only hung on with her paws. He rushed over, and was about to help her, but stopped, simply staring down at her. Elijah, letting out his pent anger, shouted at her, saying how he hated her and her siblings for making his life hell for him in his youth. Bell, still begging for help, tried to explain they did it because they were scared of Firefly and they tried to make friends. Shutting down the part of him that felt he should help her, he told her that it was all well being scared of what she MIGHT do, but being scared all the time, KNOWING what she'd do and being hated was another thing. Elijah walked away, letting her fall to her death. It was only after he heard her fell that he had an inkling of regret for what he'd done.
Then he noticed someone in his colony a distance away, Nightingale, watching him, horrified. They stared at each other for a second before Nightingale dashed off towards the colony so they could tell about it. Elijah dashed after them, pouncing on them and dragging them towards a pond as they kicked and clawed him. Overcome by anger, not at Nightingale specifically, he shoved their head in the water until they drowned. He let the body sink to the floor.
Elijah didn't feel very guilty. He felt a cold, apprehensive relief. But he couldn't be found like this - no. Thinking quickly, he dragged himself away, clawing himself so it'd look like he was in a fight near the gorge, and fell asleep through the night. He was found and he lied, saying cats came and attacked them and pushed Bell over the gorge. He was believed.
His siblings pressed him about the battle - surely, with a cat as swift, agile and quick thinking as Elijah, he couldn't have gotten that beaten up? Eli told them that there were simply too many cats for him to handle and left it at that.
Quite some time passed, and the presence of Bell and Nightingale didn't have an affect on him. The Colony was concerned about what happened to Nightingale, but assumed that he'd been killed by the attackers, or, uncharacteristically, ran away.
