A modern clone, living an involuntary high life as a celebrity racing pilot. Watch out, he hasn't quite been tamed.

The Star of Star Tropic

On the lavishly beautiful pleasure planet of New Monaco, one can find just about anything under the sun to bet on. One sport, however, reigns king: skimracing.

There are many iterations on the motorsport, but the best way to get the most out of your biotech skimmer is to link your body and mind with the fleshy machinery.... and the only people capable of that are 'clones', the artificially created human-biomachinery hybrids that New Monaco just can't get enough of.

Enter Sable: a custom job, more elegant than your average clone, and most certainly struggling for the fact that uncertified (see:amateur) clones are absolutely not supposed to exist. It seems a dream come true--a long-suffering uncertified gets scooped up by a gracious racing sponsor and transformed into a star, beloved by thousands and comfortable in the lap of luxury. But of course, there's one little caveat; all it takes to connect an average clone to a biomachine is a bit of surgery, the product of which just happens to loophole into being legal exclusively on New Monaco.

In essence, once you're in, you're not ever getting out.

It's a decent life for those who sign up willingly. Sable, unfortunately, did not. After being near-killed in a getaway gone wrong, he was salvaged in an act of 'charity', brought back to New Monaco to be awoken with a few new modifications in place. He kicked and fought and protested every step of the way into his new life; but as his surgeon put it, what are you going to do, leave?

It's not all bad: he hasn't completely settled into complacency, but it's difficult not to appreciate never being hungry again, never wanting for any material thing, never having to worry about how he'll afford the life-sustaining custom serum that clones need weekly to continue living. Exploring the unexpected world of biomachinery and the strange bond he's developed with his machine, Star Tropic, has been fascinating. Sable has yet to give up, but for now, it's not a bad idea to get to know the pawns and powers at play in the system....

Trivia
  • Out of laziness he tends to let his natural roots grow out; while initially this was a frequent point of argument with his stylist, it's become trendy among his fans to adopt a similar look, so he gets bothered about it a lot less. He's not sure how to feel about this.
  • Being a homebrew design, Sable isn't compatible with a traditional vitals-tracking device, and so wears gold bracelets which return that data to his team. The necklace, however, is a tracking device and enforcement tool, tightening to a stranglehold should he leave New Monaco's atmosphere or be a bit too combative with staff. Maybe if he behaved more reliably he wouldn't have to wear it, but....
  • His eyes are original to him. Unlike many uncertified clones who sport digital-display type eyes, his are handcrafted and completely physical.
  • If Sable had his way, he'd probably be a lot more goth.
az
To blame for many things, and yet the only one Sable feels like he can talk honestly to—it's a fraught relationship not helped by Az's careless nature. But you can't escape a coworker, so might as well consider his olive branches.
saoirse
A kind teammate, although with a very different outlook than Sable on their situation as pilots. It's undeniable that Saoirse means well, but 'bright sides' aren't what Sable needs right now.
