"When you don't know who you are, you fuck around and find out"

ABOUT

Sloan is a 20 year old woman who is desperate to escape the small town she's lived in her whole life. She works as a receptionist at a hair salon, hoping to one day become a stylist. The return of an old haunt turns her world upside down, and she finds herself grappling with her sexuality and feelings towards her childhood crush turned enemy turned friend. PERSONALITY

Sloan is withdrawn and distant, often interpreted to be very serious. Can be aloof and seem outwardly uncaring, but in truth she feels things incredibly deeply. She hates to cry and sees it as weakness, her cool facade cracking and showing her fear she keeps bottled up. She thrives in intimate settings, enjoys talking about the deeper things in life and about common interests she finds with others, such as music. Being forced to be independent and grow up too fast has made her mature beyond her years. Sloan's weakness is her inability to let go of things from the past, made worse by her trauma. She guards herself because of this and often misses out on genuine connections because she does not want to let anyone in. There are a few exceptions to this. Enoys dry wit and good manners and cigarettes after a good dinner.

STORY

Sloan grew up in the small town of Stillwater, Maine, raised solely by her mother. She learned early on how to fend for herself, her mother working constantly to keep them afloat in the small, dingy apartment. With little to no emotional support at home and a constant feeling of abandonment, she found herself relying on her own compass most of the time, as well of the support of her childhood friend, Avery. As they grew up and fell into different social statuses, Sloan became a victim of Avery's bullying until she eventually moved away to go to college. Sloan grappled with feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness, feeling stuck in one place, as if she would never be able to leave Stillwater. She struggled with what she wanted to do, but eventually settled on hairdressing, something she'd become fond of in her formative years. She currently works at the front desk of the local salon, practicing her styling on the side on her friends.

STORY CONT.

Sloan finally settled into her newfound purpose, but her plans were thrown through a loop when she found Avery in the library one day, seemingly back from college. Despite their previous tumultuous relationship, she found it funny that Avery was researching vampires, and they rekindled their friendship after an apology from Avery. Sloan struggles with her feelings towards Avery, feeling protective and responsible for her as she seems to continuously find herself in trouble due to whatever she gets up to with her other friends. She feels as though she constantly lectures Avery, though is always there with an open window or door for her to eventually come stumbling in through into her apartment. Perhaps she's too loyal of a friend... or is it something more that keeps her waiting up for Avery?

YOU ARE THE KNIFE I TURN INSIDE MYSELF

Sloan truly, deeply cares for Avery. She feels a protectiveness over her and a responsibility for her despite the many times she's been burned. Their shared past makes it hard for her to let go, and she finds herself constantly allowing Avery back into her life, even when she knows she's being used. Sloan feels complicated towards Avery, knowing she is trying her very best to make it up to her and make their friendship work. Sloan wishes it could be more than that, but they are so disfunctional as it is, she isn't sure it would work out.

I'M IN LOVE WITH YOUR HONOR

Sloan did not meet Nora under the best circumstances, however she would say she considers Nora a best friend. They are strikingly different in appearance, but share similar values and interests. Despite Nora being a sort of 'bodyguard' for Sloan during times when she did not feel safe going out alone, she enjoys her company greatly. Sloan admires Nora's confidence and kindness, while also taking no shit from anyone, as far as she knows.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU SURRENDER TO

Sloan hates Vale, to put it plainly. She hates her for turning her best friend into a vampire, even if they weren't really 'friends' when it happened, and she hates her for the things she's done to Avery that Sloan doesn't know about. Sloan is always saddled with the aftermath of Avery's time spent with Vale, and she sees evil in every bruise and cut that Avery comes to her with. She would be lying if she said she wasn't terrified of her-- perhaps it's what she doesn't know about Vale that scares her the most. Sloan refuses to give Vale the time of day, though also feels that if she said any of her innermost thoughts about the vampire to her that she would be putting herself in danger.
