vague story is that basically he was normal hyena but he was super in love with the dominant female of his pack, and even though she wasn't interested in him, he dedicated his life to making her happy in whatever way he could in the ways she could accept. And IDK MAGIC or something and he essentially becomes what he looks like now.he becomes the spirit of unrequited love.Because to Desta, love isn't the be-all and end-all? Yes, he loves, and he loves her, and she will never love him back especially now she's passed on. And that's sad. But....that's only one part of his life. So at the time yes V SAD, but now it's a bittersweet ache. IDK Desta's story is about learning to be your own person, learning that love isn't the be-all and end-all.
