The ancient civilization worshipped no god- only the Void, and the creatures that lied in it. However, every matter of worship requires a priest- and Heathen was eager to fill such a role. He is kind and polite to his fellow bugs and beasts, and avoids conflict as much as he can. He is always eager to meet new people, but prefers to stay alone with his pet. He is ever-loyal to the Void and gives his life's work for it, believing it to be the salvation of all creatures across the lands- if they would only embrace it.

Design Notes
- Heathen is fairly average-size, standing at a little below 6 feet.
- Heathen did not previously have his wings and tail- only obtaining them after his accident with the Void.
Inventory
Heathen keeps a Void Idol stored in a pocket beneath his robe, as a symbol of luck and faith. He keeps his sword in his home, as he tries to avoid any sort of combat in any way.

THE BLACK KINGDOM
The Ancient Caste that once ruled over Hallownest found no god to worship- no dreaming light to build statues of, no pale beings to be ruled by, no nightmares to serve ritual to. They yearned for the purity and unbound restrictions of the Void, choosing to worship it instead. They built a thriving, sprawling city in the Abyss, glamorous and grand.

Every center of worship needs a leader- a priest. Heathen was chosen to fulfill that role, sharing the powers of the void across the lands of Hallownest. He learned and experimented with the void, even producing a dog-like creature out of it that he kept as his pet, naming it Preacher. He desired to learn more, to do more, to create more with Void- eventually leading to a desire to connect with the Void itself, hoping it would give purity. He rose from the city to the higher parts of the Abyss, studying the sea of Void from up close, trying to connect with it, until one day, he fell in.
SLUMBER
Had he been alone, Heathen surely would not have awoken once more to bear witness to the fading kingdom of Hallownest. The Void was the Ancient Caste's center of worship, but it shared no bias or mercy to it's members. It was hungry. It was a force of nature- and so, could not be restrained. However, a creature stayed dormant in the Voidsea. This creature, known as the Beast of the Abyss, kept him alive. Several years later, a Vessel was poking around in the Voidsea, and dragged Heathen out of the void. He laid there, asleep, for a few hours longer until waking up in front of the Lighthouse to see the great city he once lived in buried by Vessel corpses, and a Vessel running away with a nail in hand. Heathen discovered the fate of Hallownest through traveling merchants stories, and decided to travel along the rest of Hallownest, seeing what he could do for the remaining people.
Trivia
- Canonically, the only reason Heathen is alive is because of Archie finding a cool nail in the Voidsea.
- Marvin kept Heathen alive due to her vague knowledge of Heathen's High Priest status.
