"The sea speaks more honestly to those willing to drown.."

"Once we break the shore- Everyone shall know We will be the ones highest to you. Nothing but blood under the sun. There is nothing you can do. Black flags are raised to the sky. She came for war. She came for you. " -The Apaillana

Personality

Survival

The survival personality means that Maxin can laugh in the face of adversity because even if he were to lose everything, he still has himself. He is a good troubleshooter and is able to come up with solutions to problems on the whim. Things need to work easily and smoothly for Maxin, fortunately he has plenty of common sense to make that happen. He has the drive to survive.

Aggression

Maxin struggles with dealing with disappointment when things don't work out the way he wants them to. He can lash out in acts of violence or with intense swearing and foul language. He also does not handle aggravating situations such as being harassed very well. Hostility is shown towards strangers and people that don't agree with his views.

Impulsivity

Destroying things, restlessness, aggressive behavior, alcoholism.... Sometimes Maxin does things and has to come up with a reason why he did them, later. He has a difficult time explaining his plans with how his brain works. Something that seems like a good idea must be a good idea. His crew is certainly kept on their toes.

Loyalty

Few would consider the Captain as one of having a loyal look about him, but to those that had wholeheartedly earned it, Max would go to the ends of the world for the people he loves and trusts. He communicates well and never crosses boundaries, keeps his promises to the best of his abilities, and is always looking to connect on a deeper level.

Courage

Being adaptable to change, working on larger projects without fear of failure, and he's not afraid to speak his mind. He will face situations that might terrify others without flinching. Maxin embraces risks, believing that if you don't try- you'll never succeed. He makes clear decisions, but sometimes struggles to speak his mind.

Extraversion

Assertive, talkative, outgoing, and action-orientated. Maxin is very high energy and always keeping up the moral. He is aware of his environment and shows genuine warmth to his friends, a rare side few get to experience. He is quick to approach relationships... and on the other hand of things, the captain struggles at keeping his emotions in check.

History

skullsi.jpg?ex=65921524&is=657fa024&hm=8

Birth to Youth

West of the Sunless Jungle, along the strip of an island rich with exotic Trades, an unfortunate soul had been born to a city of constant change. Laws seldom existed, murder was overlooked, and theft was muffled with the loud voices of vendors shouting over the crowd. Maybe he had been dropped in the rush or exchanged for rare spices, somehow the infant had been found by a Saint among thieves. A heart of pity for the rising rates of orphans that were brought to the city for slavery. The child was raised with nothing short of a mother’s love but with the growing number of children in the sanctuary, their Caregiver was thinly stretched amongst the children. Some grew rebellious, most among them, a young little he-devil named, Maxin. Maxin slipped free of the home for orphaned children and followed after the older kids he had grown to look up to. There they took to the streets.

Youth to Capture

Being free among a place of sea-faring men and women was enough to fill any youngsters dream of making it big out on the ocean. The little kids started to get a bit older and their harmless crimes grew a bit darker. Year by year, until they found themselves toe-to-toe with rivaling gangs. Even as youths they let the roadways run red with blood. They became less like civilized kids and more like the feral beasts of the jungles. Change came with the Navy setting in, searching out any Mage’s that had enough potential to be transferred to Namarast, and to check on the newer city’s growth. Of course they discovered nothing short from madness and returned with a small fleet to subdue the inhabitants. The gang of children fought back in rebellion along with the city to keep their way of life, with most of the kids falling to the blades of well-trained Navy officers. During the small revolution, Maxin slipped through the gaps of the fighting and found himself face to face with the Admiral’s very own daughter, only a few years older than Max. She kept him hidden in her quarters on the ship to keep him safe, teaching him what she knew about being civilized, reading, -the basics. Maxin slipped through the Admiral’s hands many times, enraging the man to his uncatchable rat, only finally being found locked in the cabin with the Admiral’s daughter.

Capture to Prison

A greater punishment than death was given to the older boy by the Admiral himself, confinement in the brig. None knew of his absence for there was no one that had even known about his existence but a friend that had been lost in the fighting. Maxin received a personal flavor of torture by an enraged father until the fighting had ended- months later. From there, he was transferred on the ship back to the coast of the Sunless Jungle and handed off in secrecy, to supply a prison that was never named. Never mentioned. And if anyone asked-- never existed.

Prison to the Mines

The confinement of prison wasn’t enough for Max- who the guards deemed unruly and intolerable almost immediately. He, and the other inmates that caused havoc among the surface, were sent to the pits of hell below. A small mine shaft that lead to a maze of unstable tunnels and caverns with hundreds of hands passing an illegally mined mineral in the dark. No authority was needed in the mines. The stones they harvested had an adverse effect on mages- absorbing their power and leaving them drained of their magical abilities. Only the inmates oversaw themselves. It was a dark, cruel existence. Cold, miserable, the click of pickaxes and the shuffle of blades filled their ears. The only way to the surface was through delivering the material, and then back down they went. Here criminals and mages unjustly locked away became miners. Only the fortunate ones lasted a few years. Max and a handful of others were cursed with a knack for survival.

Hell to Partial Freedom

Day in and Day out Maxin worked around the clock, only getting rest once he’d collapsed from exhaustion or come across something remotely edible. The guards had grown bored of the inmates and their constant lives in living in the walled hell, so they found a bloodsport to entertain themselves with. They picked the strongest from the surface to fight one another, sometimes they would pull from the mines just to watch the men who hadn’t seen light for days get torn to pieces. Their will to live lost from their work and dust-lined lungs. Then, they pulled Max. Maxin, who had grown accustomed to the mines like a rat staking out survival on the streets. Maxin- who learned to eat what they mined to fill the hole in his gut. Maxin was how Miners Madness was discovered, or so they called it. When he was met with light- he went completely feral and shredded the guards dragging him out. The golems were brought to subdue him. He quickly became the guards favorite in the Pit fights.

Partial Freedom to Friends

After so many fights under his belt, Maxin began to tire of it. He hated the surface and began to refuse to fight back. The guards, not wanting their newly-found fondness to be destroyed, bribed him with the offer of remaining two days above ground with rations. That was enough to give Max the edge they were wanting. He won every man and person that he was put against, even multiple guards that fought for fun and practice. They kept his promise. They gave him his partial freedom. Food, even moldy stale bread, anything they gave him he felt was a blessing. Everyone on the surface avoided him despite Maxin being calm and spending most of his time sleeping. Everyone but a pale, scared little youngster that found refuge from bullies besides a beast. Every time Max was given rest, this familiar face would slink up to him and offer his portions. He quickly became Max’s favorite person on the surface. Him and the lunch guard.

Friends to Ghosts

Below the surface came an unrest among the Miners. Constant tunnel collapses, poor living conditions, and the wailing of injured people began to drive the inmates crazy. Maxin was elected among them to bring order to the collection of Miners that remained, and during that time drew closer to another worker, one that was also brought to the surface from suffering the same rage-filled disease Maxin did. His best friend, of course. Who else would he teach to eat the rocks. That friendship blossomed into violent squabbles and near-death fights in the darkness. Near-death fights that eventually brought his friend to an end. Maxin suffered a tragic side-effect from his consumption of the minerals. He completely absorbed a fellow mage. Their souls merged and his own appearance merged. Absorbed, but never fully gone. There his friend was. Haunting him for the rest of his days.

Ghosts to Disappearance

Shortly after the soul collision, the younger man on the surface who’s company he began to greatly enjoy- was gone. Despite Maxin being shocked it was inevitable for someone so ill to succumb to the prison. It just meant more time alone. Something he used to enjoy so much now brought him to insanity. Only the voice mocking him inside his head kept him going. Back to work he went for who knows how many years. He quit keeping track of how long he was there- but the Guards enjoyed reminding him. The oldest living Miner in the prison. Fortunately, a plague switched things up and made the prison more interesting. People began disappearing in similar fashion to the paler man, carried off to be thrown out. Guards began leaving their duties- only Golems remained to keep people from escaping. Max grew lax in his work and did as he pleased. And suddenly a thought came in mind. Leaving. One he never gave much effort towards- Maxin disappeared into the depths of those unstable mines and never returned. Golems and the few remaining immune guards searched for him in the dark-- finding an exit through a partially collapsed cavern. Their Pit fighter had escaped into the Sunless Jungle.

Freedom- Friendship- and the Seas

Months of wandering through the jungle and eventually across the lands of Ivras- Maxin was brought to Faline on his own will. The man was clearly dazed and insane, a hazard to anyone that came across him. Some of Faline’s guards tried to capture him, but found that he was quick to disappear. He only came out at night to break into establishments and eat everything in sight-- and then leave. One night roaming about, Max broke into a bakery as he usually did, and was confronted by a Rogue trying to protect the building and owner. The surprise of finding the long-deceased pale man from the Prison left Max in a state of shock for a good long while. They quickly became friends again. His friend, who he remembered being named Jura, helped the older man find some sort of work among the city as a whaler. Max felt out of place but enjoyed the rough crowd and even rougher seas--- which led him to his run-in with pirates, falling to the hands of their imprisonment and slavery, eventually joining the crew…. And the story goes on, filled with more tragedies and losses fixed with challenging decisions to a softer tone of sailing across the ocean with an old friend and a new love.
Perhaps the Navy can breathe a sigh of relief for a while.

To Be Continued.
