He's just a beanpole of a man. After being forcibly turned into a vampire by a cult of them, he was more or less a prisoner. Then Bruno helps him escape! And they have evil gay sex-
he refuses to drink from humans, so that's nice. Also, before the whole fiasco, he wanted to be a marine biologist (it's his longtime special interest).
He had a pretty nice early childhood. Then he turned 13. Awful circumstances led him to be placed with his aunt and cousin, who weren't particularly fond of him, and a combination of their treatment and bullying at school shaped Theo into a more timid, vulnerable person. He thought that he could finally be free of them once he reached college, and for the most part he was! But then there was someone who was a little too charming, a little too nice, and Theo didn't realize his true intentions until he found himself lying on the floor of a hotel room, drained of just enough blood to keep him alive.
After being used as a juice box and punching bag for... quite some time, someone else shows up apparently in the same boat. Theo's afraid of leaving the other vampires and still feels attached to the one who inducted him into this in the first place; after all, he's nice sometimes. But Theo's desire to help the stranger overtook his fear and both of them managed to escape.

Despite his pervasive anxiety, Theo does try his best to maintain a positive demeanor. Part of it is to put the people around him at ease, and the other part of it is just a leftover defense mechanism from his teen years. He's the type who believes there's good in everyone, and he values helping other people, especially if they're going through similar things he has.
His favorite animal? ...sharks and kittens.
